Mile is gone after this season if not before. it won't take long after he loses to Moo State and skates by against Vandy that the brass will be sending out feelers.

Up until 3 weeks ago or so, Porter was finishing summer school/workouts, preparing to be a full-time LSU student, an practice and workout with the team as a redshirt
Then BOOM, he has to either sit out completely or pay his own way as a part-time student...his entire situation flipped on its side in 2 days
He had every god damn right to be pissed and look to leave

I think Miles is caught in a rock and a hard place with this. Its rare everyone will qualify and if he loses players and has room he is bashed. If he goes 2 over he is bashed by the media 1000000x more than the god Saban ever is for doing the exact same shite.
A gray shirt is NOT taking a scholly away from a kid. Its telling the kid he has to wait 4 months. He doesnt lose a redshirt nor does he lose a year of elgibility. It sucks but thats life. I think Miles has to do what is best for the program and using grayshirts is apart of that just like it was when Saban was here.

is August a good time to first broach the topic with the kid? A kid who did qualify on time and was with the team all summer working out.

Now I would say Im more pissed about the possibility that a 3rd QB's scholly was revoked to entice Zach Lee. That on top with the complete lack of depth at QB for LSU has me pissed at Miles.
