Saban is one helluva architect, but after a couple of years, his success will fade a bit. He is not suited to be a legacy coach in the sense of longevity.......
Miles is more of a long term mentor and will leave a legacy at LSU.....think Cholly only more successful. We are fortunate to have him.
Who wouldn't love to play for Les? Saban not so much.

I think Saban's failure in the NFL showed us some interesting character traits:
1 - there's a point where being a hard arse reaches diminishing returns. at some point, your "i'm so focused on winning i can't possibly be bothered by you" runs its course. This probably doesn't effect college player so much, since there's constant turnover, but i definitely it has an effect on keeping assistants around.
2 - i think we all accept that coaches are hired to be fired, and that a better offer is bound to come along; but to stand up and tell an outright lie just seems to cross the line of hypocrisy
I'm not saying being nice is the way to go, i'm just saying these are things we have learned about Saban in hindsight after leaving LSU.

Saban is worse because he only had the BCS title, Les has both. Haha, just messin. I do prefer Miles because he hasn't crumbled in any games that he should have won. Florida is a good team, ULM is not. Out of Miles 7 losses, 6 have been top 20, the other was Arkansas last year with the freak offense with McFadden and Jones. You take your pick. I pick Miles.

Also, Saban was a hottie for a 50 year old coach. I can imagine that many a female made a pass. Do you guys think he cheated on his wife? God, I hope not! Terri was such a sweetheart. I had dinner with them on two occasions and they were both great people!
i heard one story in particular....but its all rumor right.....

Miles 365/24/7. Can you imagine ,as bad as Katrina was, how bad it would have been on the football team if that horse's arse Saban had still been here ?

most people shy away from the in the mirror type hard nosed coaching that saban has developed as his m.o. .....this world is getting soft.....he is just an old dinosaur.....he knows what he knows and it works.......
....miles has done great for lsu and no complaints, but right now saban becoming coach for the crimson tide is going to be a tough road for any team in the west from now on....im afraid lsu will start to lose out on that top rated out of state player to alabama......only reason........saban is their coach.......

Did you watch the game in the swamp?? Nationally televised prime time game. Two top ten teams, win would vault lsu to a number 1 ranking.....and his team looked worse in the second half then in the first. He made ZERO adjustments during that game.
Question. How'd you like someone to take one bad day out of your life and base their entire estimation of what type of person you are based on that one day? Got it?

They have two completley different styles of coaching. Saban is a hard nosed control freak who has to have full control over the entire football program. Miles is a laid back coach who gives freedom to his coordinators. Nothing wrong with either style, just totally different. Overall, as a coach I give Saban a slight nod, But Miles is better for LSU at this point. Miles doesn't panic. Miles' calmness rubs off on the players who also don't panic and usually win when loosen up and play calm.
As a person, Miles is much much better. I appreciate the fact that when I listen to Miles talk, while it can be difficult to decipher sometimes, I don't get the feeling that he's bullshitting everyone. With Saban, all I could think to myself was that he had excellent bullshite skills.

Hi Allyp! IMO Miles is a better coach since he builds and maintains excellent staffs and doesn't throw players under the bus! He's a true player's coach; and I think the guys play their butts off for him. Since you asked, I'll also cite the HUGE coaching error Saban made against LSU in 2007: Instead of a conservative 3rd down call (late in the game) deep in his own territory and a punt...he had JPW drop back and get blown up by Chad Jones...monster fumble...game over in regulation! If Miles had done this, we'd still be hearing about it! Bama loses 2 or more games in regular season...book it! Saban: good...Miles: GREAT!!! Fear da Hat!!

I disagree. We scored right before the half, then scored to start the second half, and I felt a lot better. Then the wheels came completely off. Some days you eat the Gator, and some days the Gator eats you (and there's no way to "gay down" that cliche. I tried.)

Are you basing this on his stellar career at MSU or his stunning run at Miami? Miles has done more in his career so far. He turned OSU into a contender in a tough conference and has maintained LSU's excellence and recruiting since Saban. While Saban is getting a lot of press right now, that will probably change before the season is over.
Both good coaches, but Miles body of work is so far > Saban's by a hair. This is of course complete denial since you are so smart.

Put the teo of them in a room, Saban coaches circles around Les. Now take the Saban's staff vs LSU's staff and I give the edge to LSU. Saban is a micro-manager while Les is sort of the ceo. He's the head of the organization and decides which direction to go and has his staff implement that and just steps in when he's needed.

it depends what you mean by coach.
If you're referring to who's a better program manager, it's probably close to a wash with Miles maybe having a small edge.
If you're referring to Xs and Os, teaching football, etc., then Saban is better by a lot.
