Why would you not accept the answer from the team?

He had an allergic reaction causing hospitalization. What about that seems like a lie? Pretty specific reason.

You don’t go to the ICU from an allergic reaction and get discharged the next day. I work in the ER we discharge people from the ER all the time after treating an acute allergic reaction. It would have to be a reaction that caused residual problems to be hospitalized because of it.

If they thought it was an anaphylactic reaction, they weren’t just going to treat him and send him home. A night of observation makes sense. I doubt the team made up him being in the hospital.

Anaphylaxis can cause a seizure and that was the rumor. And that absolutely requires a night of observation in the hospital.

I treat and discharge anaphylaxis after Monitoring for several hours as long as vitals remain stable. IV solumedrol, Benadryl, pepcid, epinephrine, fluids. I know with athletes they take extra precaution though due to liability

I’ve seen cases where patients had to be intubated after being pushed 3 epi’s and multiple doses of steroids, intravenous benedryl and pepsid. It depends on the reaction. If it is the first time, it is even more complex bc they have to figure out the “why”. What if he has a chronic mast cell disorder that is onset by his body chemistry and exasperated by temperature? Common may not be so “common” when it comes to reactions. Some people are allergic to one thing like nuts or animal dander, etc. while others who may need ICU level care may not be allergic to anything but still have reactions. Lupus for example is an incurable autoimmune illness that impacts 95% women that makes them “allergic to the sun”. There are many others that I can speak with some intelligence on due to family members having these illnesses where most hospitals don’t know how to treat them like one with a rare Mast Cell disorder.
The field of immunology is very fascinating.

There are many forms of allergic reactions for many different reasons so don’t assume anything.
