I think Alleva throwing him under the bus helped this whole process. Fanbase attacked him. He got pissed. Here we are. I think he's redeemed himself significantly. Maybe he was never the problem.

He is one vote on the BOS who has a one year term with the Chairman title. He does not have control over the board
You can probably thank Stephen Perry. He know Woodward personally and they are long time friends. Throw in the fact that Perry hired his old boss and you have the kind of back Channel relationship that can make this happen.

As much as it pisses me off to say it, Jay Dardenne is probably the guy who deserves most of the credit for the Woodward hire.
