He reminds me a bit of Marcel Brooks.

If Trindon can play Rush DE then Perkins can too.

He'll take the Stingley route and become an all pro pass rush specialist

Perkins has played his last game as a Tiger.

So, the question is IF Perkins returns, what exactly is his role? Do we force him to safety and hope he learns the role that seems possibly like a better fit? Do we keep him at LB, and hope he learns that position as well?

Frankly, I don't think Perkins will come back. While he's been injured all year, he can still go pretty high in the draft based on his athleticism and early-career college performance.

He has pretty much everything to lose if he comes back - will he really improve his draft stock if he comes back and excels? Much larger possibility that he continues to struggle as a tweener being stuck in the wrong position, which won't help his draft stock.

It also boils down to what Perkins wants to do if he does come back.

If he's open to moving to safety theres a good chance for him to ball out his senior year and really help his draft stock. But if he really wants to play LB, and if the coaches really don't think he's a good fit there, then I could see him going the way Zy did to 10RC (I really want to be a LT, even though you have Will Campbell - so BYE!).

Given how Weeks is playing I wouldn't bet on Baker plugging him back at LB if Perkins comes back.

So, all things considered, I think that the most likely scenario is that Perkins declares for the draft. Next most likely is that Perkins considers the portal if he can't come back as a LB. Or, he could come back and trust the coaches to put him where he's most suited to succeed.

(Edited to add: he could also come back and work his tookus off at Star, but is there a comparable NFL position that translates to the collegiate Star position? Specifically, does Perkins working well at Star make him a good draft choice, moreso than at LB or safety? Would that help him in the draft given that he'd likely have just that one more year before he declares? I'm not so sure...).

Just a few mumblings from me on the topic, friends.

Hope he doesn’t transfer to a team that haunts us. I could see him going to A&M for a payday.

He will come back. And he will no longer be an MLB. With the right position move and a little hard work on his part he will shine next year. Baker knows exactly what to do with him.
Also, it’s in his best interest. He is not ready to play pro ball.
