I know lots of people who have done this. I even drafted and notarized one once.
Thats cool most have done a bill of sale, but thats more just for feel goods.
Notarizing it would be a different story.
Most people dont do either of these, which is perfectly legal and fine. You dont have to do either.

But many still do it to protect themselves
Is a bill of sale that isnt notarized a legal document? I'm not a lawyer, but I dont think a bill of sale will hold up.

Hell, in a spot like that, you wouldn’t feel a BB straight to the chest anyway.

The guy pulled a BB gun and pointed it at Clyde's teammate. Clyde is a police officer's son and has been trained extensively on how to use a hand gun. What other details do you need?
This. Look I’m sorry the young man is dead. But when you rob somebody with something indistinguishable from a firearm, you’re putting your life on the line.

Where are y’all getting this BB gun information from? Can someone explain?
Posted on 12/22/18 at 8:39 pm to ForeverEllisHugh
It was reported that 2 guns were recovered from the truck. One likely the dead guy's and one likely CEH's.

I'm not a gun guy. But, with this conversation in curious now, is there a way to find out if a gun has been reported stolen if you buy it from an individual? Is it as easy as calling a police precinct?

It has been thrown around since the birth of this story, not sure if it’s true or not.

I'm just trying to picture how CEH was able to get the first shot in. The guy was in the backseat, with his gun drawn, and CEH was able to pull, cock, turn around and accurately shoot chest then head. That's impressive.
The gun was drawn on Small, not Clyde.

You don't need to do an FFL transfer in Louisiana? I thought that was a federal requirement for transferring ownership of handguns.
Nope, you dont need anything. Just give me money and I give you gun. Obviously, FFLs are different, but private sales are as easy as that.
And we would hope if you suspect someone of being a felon that you wouldnt sell them a weapon. Ive done that before. Dude was shady as frick. Refused to sell them something.

If you know the serial number (most don’t) you can report that to the police

In Louisiana, lack of knowledge that the firearm was stolen is an affirmative defense.
That means all the prosecution has to do is show that the defendant possessed the stolen firearm. Then the burden shifts to the defendant to prove that he did not know it was stolen.
Bingo. See below.
§69.1. Illegal possession of stolen firearms
A.(1) Illegal possession of stolen firearms is the intentional possessing, procuring, receiving, or concealing of a firearm which has been the subject of any form of misappropriation.
(2) It shall be an affirmative defense to a prosecution for a violation of this Section that the offender had no knowledge that the firearm was the subject of any form of misappropriation.

Yes

It’s evidence. It’s value is up to the finder of fact.

Another poster who spoke with one of the first responders whose threads keep getting whacked.

Doubt you would get much help from a local precinct. A firearms trace report would have to be run. If I had to guess, calling a local ATF office would be your best bet.

Lol. I'm not understanding the defensiveness on here. I simply said it was impressive. Like ove said before, it's amazing how all of a sudden, EVERYONE is for gun rights and self defense with a gun now given the situation.
I didnt know one was a B.B. gun and I didnt know our law enforcement's training was so bad arse. I'm here to learn.
Thanks

According to the cop wife you can call the cops and a deputy will come out ans run the serial number. They wont do it over the phone because if its stolen or has been used in a crime they will obviously have questions for whoever possesses the firearm.
ETA: She also said if they are busy, dont expect them to come.
You can also go to a gun store and they can do the transfer for some sort of fee. Thatd be up to them though.

Call it an educated guess. My grandfather was a deputy sheriff and a former Marine. I knew how to handle a gun by the time I was 13. So did everyone else in my family.

Likewise, I've seen louisiana law enforcement over seas trying to train other police forces and they couldn't hit a 2 liter bottle from 100m out with a 4x on an m4.
