On a related note, what the hell happened to the student section chanting tiger bait when the opposing team comes out? All they ever do is boo now. The tiger baiting sounded much better and I believe added more to the atmosphere.

Several years ago I ran several full page ads in the Tiger Weekly trying to bring this back. Fail.

If they were about 6 or 7 years ago, I remember them. My wife worked for Tiger Weekly about that time.

We have the dumbest student section in the country.

Simply a reflection of society today. Some students think you can't have fun unless you're drunk and able to act stupid regardless of the consequences!

Sorry, don't believe this happened...mainly because 30+ women are mature enough to know how disgusting this yell really is...

It's called being respectful of others and it's usually taught at home...obviously a lot of the students weren't paying attention or the parents just didn't care about leading by example!

Uhh, what? In one of the most emotionally charged environments in the world where you're watching people get into the equivalent of a car wreck every play, using foul language is too much?

Trust me, those recruits probably love it. It probably makes them think, "Hell fricking yeah. I could definitely play for these people."

ETA: and recruits families? Trust me, they are worried about more aspects of the team/school than whether the student section may chant vulgarities at games.
yeah uh no i'm gonna go ahead and reserve the right to *not* trust you on anything you just said.

We get a lot of recruits because of the student section

our student section is generally great, above average for sure. i just don't think STTDB is an attraction for recruits, and can promise you it isn't for recruits' families.

The good comes with the bad, it is what it is. Everybody making a big deal out of this makes the situation worse. It'll eventually die out

Then when big-time recruits are turned off and don't come here

you really think 17 and 18 year old high school kids won't come to a school because the student section curses? You are out of touch with reality.

As a former band member when Neck was first played, I see the most irony in all of this.

Tiger Band was criticized for playing awful, boring music in the stands, which was true. The transition started with Neck. For the first time in a long time, Tiger Band played something cool.

Neck gets banned for the chant.

Tuba player writes something else pretty cool: LINK

Naturally, STTDB gets transitioned. That song goes away.

All of the Lights? That is slow, chant to that. Who knows how long that will last. Tiger Band will be back to playing In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida and Oye Como Va soon.

Problem is with new song the dumbasses yell it several times... At least neck was just a couple.

I really don't get why they feel the need.
It's embarrassing.

The students will not be happy until there is a full blown national controversy over singing vile crap! The image of the university will be tarnished, but they'll be proud to be a bunch of profane vulgar mutants!
