Probably a function of bargaining power at the time. We had something to offer.

I agree with this, but I would think the same point would be in effect with the A&M deal, no? Didn't LSU have to agree to the Turkey Day game? Or did they not have a choice?

So you are saying that CBS chooses to not broadcast the A&M/LSU games in College Station? After all, the Alleva cheerleaders in here claim that CBS dictates when and what time LSU will play its home games.

No, I'm saying the contract dictates that they won't air the Thanksgiving Day game. If the game in Tiger Stadium were on Thanksgiving Day, they wouldn't air it either. Are you being purposefully obtuse for any particular reason?

You aren't answering the question. Joe Alleva, and his backers, are saying that CBS tells LSU what day and time we must play our game with Texas A&M (used to be Arkansas). He says that we have no control over that. Obviously, Texas A&M has control over what day they play their home game with LSU.

Why does CBS tell LSU what to do, but they let A&M do what they want?

I can't say any more plainly that the television contracts between both the NFL and CBS as well as the SEC and CBS determines which games the network gets to choose, whom to air, and when.

So CBS dictates to LSU that we must play on Friday, but they tell A&M that they can pick whatever day they want to play the game. Got it.

What aren't you getting?

Joe Alleva says that LSU must follow CBS' orders on what day and time the game is played. It is obvious that CBS does not tell A&M when the game is played, because CBS is not even broadcasting the game.

Care to explain that to me?

He can't. So he is just going to repeat how these contracts are "supposed" to work

CBS has rights to the Friday and Saturday games. Thus they determine what time the game would be. We likely do not get the night spot, because they would probably give that to the Iron Bowl.

IF Alleva/LSU decided to play at home on Thursday (Thanksgiving), CBS is out of the picture, as their contract is for Friday/Saturday after Thanksgiving. (They're more focused on pro games on Thanksgiving day) Thus the game would likely be on ESPN, who likes LSU night games. Also, what other good SEC game will be on Thanksgiving to "steal" the night spot?

So...you want a night game? Play Thursday. Want a Saturday game? Probably not gonna be at night.

That's my understanding

You are correct, but don't bother. It doesn't fit their narrative.

What if you don't want to play a game on Thanksgiving, home or away, how can you be forced to do so?

Who says LSU was "forced" to play the Thanksgiving game? And if they were, where does the school power trump the conference/tv power? Let's say Slive decided that having TAMU play on Thanksgiving was a great way to introduce them to the league or some shite. If the conference says LSU/TAMU will be on Thanksgiving, other than not showing up where is the leverage for Alleva to say no?

So Slive says, "Hey A&M, you've been members of the SEC for a year, what do you want?" And then he turns around and says, "Hey LSU, I know you're a charter member in the SEC, but we're going to make you play on Thanksgiving night whether you like it or not. Deal with it."

This is the point that keeps getting missed.

Easily better to have a Saturday day game in November than playing on Thanksgiving.

Also, it would be at night a good bit of the time

Like the last time we got arky on Saturday

They weren't forced, at least according to Alleva. I remember him saying the conference had to ensure LSU had a bye week the previous Saturday before he would agree to it.
