quote:Yep, he definitely drove the red cadillac. I lived in those apartments as well for a couple of years while Kevin lived there and talked to him all the time when he was outside.
I was Faulk's neighbor when he lived off Nicholson by the Circle K...he had a candy apple red (not maroon) Cadillac Deville with 20" wheels. He use to hand wash it weekly in the parking lot.

where those cars their cars or where they someone elses ? makes a difference.
They were driving, but of course I have NO idea whose they were, etc.
Not too many college students, regardless of their economic background, have sweet rides ... well, at least back then. Some did - of course - but it was fairly abnormal.
I assume it's against the rules, but what car dealer wouldn't give someone like Shaq a graduated car payment schedule - like $100/month for the first 2 years - that his parents could afford.

Was he recruiting for LSU? That should make some recruits reconsider about going out of state. It least other coaches will have to consider uping their bid.

I live uptown in New Orleans, next to Tulane. You might want to rethink this statement the next time you come to N.O. ! Those kids drive some NICE cars.

I don't really think that deserves a "Kaboom"--he just had the year wrong.
Or he made it up.

I was an athlete and lived in Broussard Hall my freshman year with all the football players... they had pretty good rides.
The best example I have was after Rondell Mealy torched the Indy bowl with 200+ yards, he came back to school with a new pimped out explorer.
Somehow they get away with it.
I lived in Broussard too although I wasn't an athlete in college. I actually grew up playing sports with Rondell in the River Parishes. His family was not poor at all and actually could afford to buy him an explorer. The year I lived in broussard, I lived one floor up right on top of K. Faulk. He had some gold metallic late model american car (caddy, buick, or oldsmobile) sittin' on top of some 20's. Nothing spectacular.

not sure if this relevant or not, but lsu's 2nd string deep snapper on the 02 team was sportin' a 1999 ford focus around campus.

He got that with an advance from his agent shortly after his eligibily ran out. Booger got a white one at the same time.
That was the same for many players after the season their senior year. Sammy Martin went from driving a piece of shite cutlass or monte carlo 9can't remember), then a new Blazer as I recall.

I'm not reading this entire thread, but JaMarcus drove a Tahoe which was stolen right before the Sugar Bowl. He was interviewed on one of the local tv stations about it.

Escalade's first model year was '99.
Actually, Cadillac was testing the Escalade in 1997, and they picked Kevin Faulk at random to test drive it for them. They were especially interested in how the back seat held up after a lot of use! The rest is history.

Why would you assume it's against the rules for a college student to accept a car loan?
Lenders were practically giving away houses to stupid people that couldn't afford them. Why wouldn't they do the same thing for cars to stupid athletes with a likelihood of being able to afford balloon payments?
