Going into 2003 we had an unsettled QB situation. Mauck was hurt pretty bad in 02. In 2007 we lost the best college QB in the nation in the draft. Would anyone picked us to win the hardware those years?

It is won or lost in the OL, DL and Defensive secondary.. In that order. QB, WR's have minimal impact. Anyone think Greg McElroy leads any team to an BCS trophy on his play alone?

Uhh, considering we opened the season as the #2 team with a great deal of support for us to be #1, yeah, I'd say some people picked us to go to a national title.

Going into 2007, everyone was pretty confident that we'd have a badass defense and a really good line/running game. The question was whether or not Flynn could minimize his mistakes, but most people were fairly optimistic that he could, at worst, manage the game due to his previous playing time and age. I was nervous about our WRs, but that was more so because we lost such tremendous players, not because we lacked talent. Also, 2007 is an odd year, which traditionally is an easier schedule year.

This season we are unsure of:

How good our QB will be
How good our running game will be
Who will step up at WR/TE
Whether or not our line will be any good
Whether or not we can pressure the QB
Whether or not our coaching staff will progress

That's a lot of uncertainty that we didn't collectively come to in 2007.

I wasn't aware of that. Florida was the defending National Champion. I thought we were # 4 or 5 with UF ahead of us in the SEC. I could be wrong. 2007 definitely had bigger expectations. We destroyed Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. We were destroyed by Texas in the Cotton after the 2002 season.

Explain. Mauck was our clear-cut starter. He was our starter in 2002 until his injury knocked him out for the season.

Nah, we were #2 in both polls. A lot of people were skeptical about UF losing Leak and their complete lack of a running game. I believe the rankings were:

1. USC
2. LSU
3. West Virginia
4. ?
5. Michigan
6. UF

I remember VT was #9 and Ohio State was not a preseason top 10 team. Michigan tanked REAL fast after losing to Appy and getting skullfricked by Oregon.

When guys like Davey, Mauck, JRuss, and Flynn played when the O got the ball I was thinking ok let's see how well were going to move the ball.

When I watch JJ play QB I feel very similar to when Marcus Randall was under center. It's not how well are we going to move it because we know we can. It's oh shite how many positive plays can we have before the offense bogs down.

Our offense stops our offense more than opposing defenses do.

Courso picked us as his dark horse in 03. Or is it Corso?
