"Hey Fella, we play you guys next week and wanted to give you some tips:

Play 3 down and drop 8, we won't try to run.
If we have an incomplete pass on 1st down, we WILL try to run on 2nd and long.
We like to send our receivers into the same areas, gives us more hands in a cluster to make a catch.
Even though the middle of the field should be open, we like to throw into the sideline more to give you a shorter field to defend.
We have some of the fastest receivers in college football but only take a few shots downfield (and will likely underthrow). We will primarily throw screens.
Two-point conversions - we removed the play against Bama in 2022 from the playbook and would prefer to run the ball from 7 yards deep.
We like to burn timeouts in the 1st and 3rd quarters.
Give our QB tons of green space ahead of him. Your 3 down will eventually get to him and we don't want him running.

See you on Saturday!"

plus "all of our plays are tremendously slow to develop, so you should have plenty of time to figure out what we are doing."

Look, I'm not here to defend Sloan but Brad Davis to me has become a bigger issue. Football really is a simple game, the team that blocks and tackles the best will win the game 99 times out of 100. The simple fact is that we have not been good at one of the two most fundamental aspects of the game at a spot where it is most crucial to be able to do so. Could Sloan or an elite OC rather try to window dress and smoke and mirror this thing to be somewhat productive, sure. But the reality is quite simple and deeply concerning and that is that LSU flat cannot block people up front.

I've called plays before in real football games and I'm not here to say Sloan is great by any means, but with the pitiful blocking we have up front, it would be difficult for Kyle Shanahan to call plays.

ETA; this, quite frankly has been what has disappointed me most under Brian Kelly. I fully expected that LSU would have at the very least competent but more than likely elite offensive line play when he was hired and that just has not materialized and I have no idea why. It's not like the man doesn't know how offensive line is coached, he pumped more TE's and OL out of Notre Dame than anything. It truly is mystifying.

I watch practice videos and he's teaching well. Kelly has a pedigree of developing OL. I struggle to see where the disconnect is, but man are they bad at blocking and getting push.

I don't see a lot of trust and chemistry in the line at all. I see a bunch of individuals that don't know their job and are trying not to screw up.

This is a really good post and the truth. None of us see practice day in and day out so it's hard for me to say what the issue is with certainty. I know Brad Davis knows how vital pad level is. I know he knows how crucial inside hand leverage is. I know Brian Kelly knows these things too. I just have no idea what the issue is and why the message is not getting through.

To be fair, no need to remind anyone, this is a known commodity nation wide

If they know it, which is highly doubtful when watching it, then they certainly have no idea how to teach it. They also have recruited some really weak players...probably just recruiting stars guided by recruiting services that are paid by hs athletes, without actual knowledge of real ability. 60 these guys are as bad as I have ever seen at LSU in 60 years of supporting LSU football.

That's what makes no sense though. They just saw Will Campbell. Kelly put one lineman in the top of the NFL draft after another. I just don't buy that they don't know what to look for given they've found what they're looking for before.

Joe Sloan is the 2025 "Offensive Doppelganger" of Matt House.

He's Pennywise the House clown on Offense; the Bizzaro World Offensive opposite of House with an Offensive Staff full of "Used Car Salesmen" types that can't effectively coach their position athletes. (Brad Davis is Bozo the Clown)

Pennywise and Bozo. (That's 2 Circus Clowns on the Offensive Staff) with Wilson, Hankton and Atkins not exactly what you'd call stellar "Teaching their Position" assistant coaches. (Judging by the in-game performance of their athletes)

With NIL in place, LSU (Or any other school) really doesn't need any "Used Car Salesmen" dead weight on the coaching staff. Just give the HS recruits and Portal Transfers a big bag of $$$$ and you're good to go.

Better load your Staff up with coaches that can actually teach their position and let Coach Ineyeell recruit them!
