FEAR THE HAT!!!! ZOMG!!!!

The article about the guy training JJ and focusing on footwork, if it works, will cure a lot of ills we had last year (not saying that was the only issue). Add in Gonzales and I think we're going to see a much improved offense next year (couldn't get worse).
Seriously, you don't find it pathetic that Crowton is getting paid $450k and couldn't fix JJ's footwork last year? Case in-point in the cluster frick known as LSU offensive coaching....
The man has coached in the NFL and can't improve a college player's basic footwork????

does every coach tell his QB to spike the ball on 4th down after he wasted 20 seconds the play before then after the game claim he didn't tell him to spike it and throw the young QB under the bus?

Ask Rich Rod if GC should be working with JJ all summer

Ample time during spring and fall practice, get real.

I am real, ok I agree GC or someone should have been working on it but it was evident during the spring game he wasnt there.
The guy sounds like he's working on it hard. I'm happy for that. Doesn't mean i dont want more from what we have.
So, I show something postive and you just bash it.

I'm floored by people who think that Les Miles is a great coach and better than Nick Saban. All Saban did was resurrect two programs mired in a stagnant era of their program's history and take them to the top of college football in less than 5 years...while competing in the SEC no less. Miles took over a program one year removed from a national championship. Before that, he notched a staggering 28 wins in four seasons (4-7, 8-5, 9-4, 7-5) at Oklahoma State. Obviously, Les was working with less talent at OSU than he has at LSU, and 9-4 is a respectable record for a program like OSU, but show me where his credentials were for running and maintaining a national championship caliber football program.
I am not saying that it's easy to win national championships and that LSU should be winning them left and right, but I will tell you something LSU should NOT be doing with the level of talent they consistently bring in: Going down to the wire with 5-7 teams and scoring 3 points on a Florida defense that Alabama scored 32 on.
So what solutions would I suggest?
1. Stop F'in around on offense. Get an identity. Whether that means firing Gary Crowton, giving him an earful, adjusting schemes and personnel or scrapping Crowton's current system entirely and starting from scratch. Obviously, something is not working and guess what? It's not because we lack the talent. I wasn't a huge fan of Jimbo Fisher sometimes either but at least when I watched his offenses, I could tell what he was trying to do (whether it was capitalizing on an opponents weakness, taking advantage of individual match-ups, etc.) The past two seasons, I feel like Crowton calls plays by picking them out of a hat.
2. Take control of the team. By this, I mean that Miles needs to assert himself and grab his coaches and players by the balls. I have never been a fan of the docile school of coaching and I'm not saying you have to be a Nick Saban, but if you want something done, it should get done. With the talent that we have (I know I'm bringing talent up a lot, but its pretty much a fact that LSU is probably one of the top 5 most talented and athletic teams in the country) I couldn't believe that we were seeing the same problems/mistakes/trends in 2009 that we saw in 2008. That is something a GREAT coach can fix in a season and a couple of off-seasons with talented personnel. Do I think Les is a good coach? Yes, but definitely not a great one.

Its very easy to see whih coach is better. After equal number of years in the sec, compare both coaches on the following:
Winning %
Division titles
Conference titles
National titles
Now, as it stands, Nick Saban had to reive two programs that had fallen to joke status (make no mistake about it- LSU was a punchline in the 90's, as Alabama was under Shula). Of course, according to Sammich, taking over a losing team is just as easy as taking over a team that won a national title two years previously (I'll pause for laughter), but as it stands, after eight years in the SEC, Saban is :
81-24 (winning %77.14)
4 trips to Atlanta
3 SEC Titles
2 National Titles
Miles, after 5 SEC years, has
51-15 record (77.27 winning %)
2 trips to Atlanta
1 SEC Championship
1 National Championship
So, to equal Saban, all Miles will have to do over the next three years is win 2 SEC titles and a National title (going ndefeated, or hell even losing fewer than 2 games would help) AND not having his winning % drop ANY lower.

Thanks for starting this thread. It's been entertaining so I thought I would chime in again. (off of work today thank goodness)
To many LSU fans, Saban was a GOD. He is and always will be. It doesn't matter he chose money and career over LSU. It only matters that in the eyes of some, he personifies College Coaching perfection.
Unfortunately Les Miles is percieved as the opposite because of lack of player development, use of personnel, and some critical game management decisions. His excellent recruting and loyalty to LSU cannot overcome this for many fans.
With a fan base as large as LSU's, you will not be able to make everyone happy. Some fans (including me) would like to give Les some time to turn it around. Get us through the next recruiting class which could be #1, and see if he can make a legitimate run.
But with that comes patience which a lot of LSU fans don't have. The major players in the TAF will ultimately decide when it's time for a coaching change. It's all about money. The minute LSU fans stop coming to the games, stop buying merchandise, etc., that's what will force Alleva to make a move for a new coach. Then it becomes timing and who is available.
If Les Miles haters dislike him so much and they want to make a change, they should not be investing one penny in LSU athletics and they should be petitioning to high roller TAF members to force change. Ranting on message boards will get you nowhere.

Mike, thanks. I hate like hell that these guys just can't let it go. I was thrilled in 03 and thought it would be some time before we won our next. Then we looked pretty bad in 04 and Saban bolted. I was not sure about Les but we've done well and then we win it all in 07. As you've pointed out they can't let Saban go as if Les is preventing his return.

Or could it be that they know Les isn't as good a coach as Saban and to win the division (much less the conference) they know LSU will need a coach that is as good or better than Saban?

Seems like much of the time when people are trying to carry on conversations about football in general, you are the first to bring up the former coaches name and his record while at LSU, etc. Why?
It's a reaction to so many of the so called LSU fans around here whose mouthes are permanantly attached to Nick Saban's genitals. They cannot seem to, ahem, discuss LSU football without denigrating Les Miles and proclaiming Nick Saban to be God Almighty. Amazing that they find the time to post while slobbing on Saban.

Dude, you're a bama fan. No one is saying he's gonna out coach the mighty saban. You're a day late and a dollare short.

Sammich has been sayng unequivocably that Miles is the better coach. All I'm saying, is the argument boils down to this: The ones who want to keep Miles seem to be worried that he would be replaced by a Dinardo type. The ones who want him to leave are worried he won't win enough to keep LSU at the same level they enjoyed the last decade. Its not a right or wrong question.
