I grew up watching LSU gorilla ball in old Alex Box with my Dad and Brothers. It was the perfect time to be a kid and a fan of LSU baseball. RIP Coach.

My Skip memory!
My high school baseball coach sent all of us to one of the first camps he put on over Christmas break.
He would bring in all the high school coaches from around the state as well as all the lsu coaches at the time.
Boots garland gave us speed coaching.
Skip was hands on as well!
Skip gave us a printed out copy of his baseball instructions for attending.
Little did I know all us campers were getting instructions from a future legend as he was there and engaged the entire time of the camp for a bunch of dudes that wouldn’t sniff a college baseball field.

Such a man. Skip Bertman - We somehow expect people like him to live forever. ??
This is a profound loss for LSU, where he helped build and sustain a championship standard, and for college baseball as a whole, where his influence shaped how programs approach development, culture, and excellence. He didn’t just collect accomplishments—he helped define what sustained success looks like at the highest level of the sport, through the way he led, taught, and built relationships within the game.
Some people are so intelligent, accomplished, charismatic, and influential in so many areas that they naturally become sources of guidance for others. They become more than leaders; they become teachers in life. He was one of those people.

Really sad but his accomplishments will never be forgotten and will forever be etched in Tiger lore/NCAA baseball.

When LSU starts to have one of those moments, my memories make me smile.
It’s not always pretty, but when the magic happens, it’s transcendence.

Indeed. My parents started buying season tickets in 88. Went to a ton of games during Skips tenure. So many memories but maybe my fondest was the Ga Tech regional game in 96 where we scored 18 runs in the 7th. That set an NCAA tournament record for most runs scored in one inning. Remember Danny Hall walking to the mound after the 4th pitching change and start kicking the mound in utter disgust. It was awesome.
My 18 yr old son got to meet Skip at the TN series in 25 during his book signing. Something he will always remember. Thanks coach Bertman for all of the memories. We love you!
