re: Since a lot of star players want to renegotiate every year, why not just have 1 year deals

quote:Did you just wake up from a coma? Revenue sharing starts this year and ALL the SEC universities have committed to share 20 million per year with their scholarship athletes. All NIL deals must now go through a clearinghouse to make sure they are legit NIL offers with legit companies. The school collectives are being transitioned into more financial services programs at most universities.
n the CBA, they have to get their arms around NIL and eliminate the pay for play thing. I realize stuff will still happen under the table, but at least it would only involve the top players instead of the entire roster.

Only pay for good plays, good tackles. Things of that nature.
Lol what?

Good luck getting everyone on board with this idea. Rivals will just guarantee deals and take every recruit you want.. The whole incentive based contract thinking isn’t based in reality.

They really need to have at least 2 year contracts for a lot of these players

All of which flies in the face of what NIL was supposed to be. If I want to pay a guy to be the face of my car dealership, I should be able to negotiate a two year deal. Going back to the original court ruling, it wasn’t supposed to be money steered by the schools But that horse isn’t going back in the barn.

I agree but they are not professionals and as of now don't sign any contract at all. There are lots of example of players taking the money then turning right around and deciding to go to school someplace else.
I'd also say, no scholarships to those who make money. Let them pay their own way with their cash and give the scholarships to other athletes in other sports.
NIL is one thing, if your face is being used in a video game you should make some cash from that etc., but it's turned into a greed fest that is only justified by people supporting the idea that these "boys" should get as much as they can as fast as they can. This doesn't end until either the law recognizes them as professional or people stop watching to the point the whole rotten thing comes down due to a lack of support. .

Yea you are correct but something has to be done to bring college football back to the way it was. Right now it sucks.

The NCAA and schools were making millions off of sales of student named/numbered jerseys, video games, etc and never shared the profits with those athletes. They couldn't even sell their autographs on merchandise.
Can't blame them for wanting their cut of those profits.

What happens when a player signs a 2 year deal and then bails after the 1st year?
Posted on 12/23/25 at 12:47 pm to Goalpost
No argument there, but I don't think we will ever see it going back. The box has been opened and it can't be closed.

I agree. The problem is it's so out of control, the players/agents may agree to some type of modification but it won't be anything significant because the players/agents know they hold all the power and there's no way they're giving that up.

Isn’t that what is already happening? I think this is dumb re negotiating with players every year. Atleast with the NFL when u sign a contract you have to see it out.

Thats what theyre doing. 1 year deals for the most part. Either put out or you have no leverage

God this thread is depressing. College football is cooked.

You don’t really know what profits are do you? The schools used that money to invest in the programs and sometimes academics.

I totally agree, and sadly, it's only going to get worse. This party just got started, so we all need to buckle up and hold on because anytime agents are at the wheel, nothing good is going to come from it!
I also think fans are going to eventually find other ways to occupy their time because it's hard to root for your team when the roster is flipped every year and you have no clue who will be on your team.
