Oh don’t say that, they get mad when Aranda gets the credit he deserves for keeping us competitive over the last 3 years.

I honestly don't think it's the scheme, I just don't think we have super talented guys. I think they are good I just don't think they are elite, saying that though it is his job to bring in the elite talent, so no hes not earning his 2.5 imo. But if we get this class and the class next year I think we are really going to see the man shine

Who else gave up 600 to OM?
The problem.is we did nothing to stop it.

Wait a minute, it’s Arandas fault when recruits don’t pan out but Orgeron gets the credit when they do? During signing season you won’t find Dave Arandas name once on any thread, it’s all O but now it’s Aranda? First off the head coach chooses who to recruit, assistants can make suggestions but it’s the HC who decides.

quote:Washington St leads the nation in passing yards. 4400 yards this season. Scalley shut them down (close to half WSUs average). No other defense came remotely close to that.
That’s one game against Missouri level talent.
Stopping the Spread offenses is every DCs nightmare. Scalley has figured it out.

Not this year but his body of work is deserving

The UTAH DC...UTAH.... The team that lost to USC. The team that is 20th in SOS vs LSUs #2 ranking. The guy who has never coached at a school bigger than Utah? Also didn't he lose to Washington State the 2 years prior to this one?
I'm not saying he is a bad coach but he checks very few of the boxes I mentioned in my post. If the defense doesn't play well the remainder of the season, you would rather fire Aranda after a NC run and potential win and hire this guy rather than give Aranda the benefit of the doubt that he can fix it in the off-season?

We’ve stopped plenty spread offenses in the past 3 years. But besides that you’re not only taking a one off game and using it to make a career judgment but you’re ignoring that the level of talent on the field is way below what we face on a weekly basis. Our problem is personnel not coaching.

The market dictates his worth. I dont think hes a top 5 DC though.
Y'all are playing the semantics game
He's the highest paid DC in the country
LSU has top 5 defensive talent in the country, and better than at least 9 other defenses in the SEC
The offensive production and 10-0 record has little correlation to whether or not he is fielding a defense as productive as his resources suggest he should

Dropped from #3 early on.

I can play their game too. Dave Aranda held Alabama's spread offense to 10 points one year even when our offense scored zero. Wow. I guess now Aranda must be better than any other DC who allowed more than 10 points to Alabama ever. It's such a dumb way to look at making a hire. Like you said look at the coach's entire body of work not just one game. That goes for an coach.

Yes. Our defense was the only reason we finished top 10 in 2018.
It's like all of you forgot that the 2017 and 2018 offenses were way worse than this defense.
I'm specifically talking about this year. I was happy with 2016-18.
I'm by no means suggesting we fire aranda lol fyi

Of course, we’ve shut down multiple high powered spread teams every season and we’ve shut down pro style teams with 10x the talent Washington State has. This is not brain surgery we have our 4 best players hurt, we have 6 starters playing hurt, we’ve had up to our top 5 players hurt, we’ve had 2 rotation players and another starter (our best pass rusher) quit and we’ve had another possible starter out for the year. That’s 10-11 guys who are either hurt and willing themselves to play or not even there. We also have others noticeably hurt and playing like Stingley. It’s unlucky but it’s nobody’s fault that Delpit couldn’t run a 5 flat 40 with a rocket up his arse right now.

Most coaches aren’t paid based off of just one year, though. Aranda earned his way to this salary. Do you folks actually believe he’s forgotten how to coach? It’s much more likely there’s something else at play.

Well he wasn't awarded his salary based on how people thought he might do in 2019. The defense has had a down year and has clearly had major lapses at times this year. But we paid what we needed to keep him from going elsewhere because he was and is very important to the program.

Understand completely. But you do have to earn the opportunity to keep said salary on a year to year basis.
That's why buyout clauses exist

I had no probably paying him originally to get us through the O transition. But The thread is asking if he is still earning it
Would I fire him for this season, absolutely not. But I would mark it down as underachieving
