It affects a ton. Say we push it back and whatever team from the west has a shot at making the playoff loses. One team shifts up into the playoffs and then it shifts everyone behind them in their conference up. Unless you hammer out a ton of agreements ahead of time, it's very hard to pull this off with minimal changes.

Exactly. Florida was dealing with a ton of injured starters this week and LSU had momentum from new coach and dominating win last week. Now Florida can potentially win out and finish 6-1 in SEC and Tennessee has to play both Bama and A&M and could be 6-2 and UF winning the East that way. While it screws LSU because if we win out and finish 6-1, then we could miss out on winning the West over a 7-1 A&M or Bama team even if we beat them.

You are wrong. In some years, some conferences have 4 and 5 way ties for the top 2 teams, which is resolved by their Conference championship game.
The top team will go to the playoffs and the second team is obligated to a prearranged bowl. Then whomever is left over will go to the early and mid December bowls.
