Zach Von Rosenberg didn’t want to make excuses on Tuesday afternoon. The focus this week and last hasn't been about what other teams are doing to have success against the purple and gold but rather what they can do better.

Because Von Rosenberg agrees with what his head coach Ed Orgeron said Monday.

"We've beaten ourselves," Von Rosneberg said. "I think that's gonna roll into the game on Saturday and how we kind of changed preparation slightly to worry about the things we can do better. We need to improve our play on both sides of the ball and I think we're doing that."

quote:

"Guys are still figuring out how to prepare for games, how to watch film correctly, how to interpret defenses and offenses correctly and so we've got some growing pains," Von Rosenberg said. "They [Queen and CEH] were always watching film and it reflected in their gameplay and they still make mistakes but they knew they were gonna ace their test on Saturday because of the preparation they put in."

So that's what the Tigers have spent the last two weeks trying to figure out. How can they prepare for an opponent while making the requisite fundamental and schematic changes needed for rapid improvement?

For the defense, it meant simplifying the schemes. Linebacker Jabril Cox says their isn't as much presnap movement as there was before. Guys are sticking to their gaps and assignments and not wavering from what they're being asked to do.

"We have a lot of guys just staying in one spot, regardless of the formation," Cox said. "We're matching numbers this week and it's a lot simpler things to not confuse our checks presnap and postsnap."

The extra week has helped some of the younger, inexperienced players hit the film room hard and Cox said there's been a tremendous amount of progress made in getting those players up to speed.

I wonder if O thought he could trust the guys to watch film like the Burrows, Queens and CEH of last year.

I will hold out hope that this just a much worse version of 2010 bam and we bounce back and start to roll with O.

He can apply pressure to do it. It really looks like the team tried to coast on last years accomplishments. The weird part is that would explain losing to state but after that they should have been ready to put in the work after but then we go and lose to mizzou.

I'm not saying it is easy to get a team back up after a nc, history as proved it is really hard to follow it up, but our two losses are pretty unacceptable at this point.

Nick Saban has said it's the toughest thing to do is get 18-22 yr olds motivated coming off a national championship

I am with you. we have played terrible defensively...still should've won the mizzou game

I am more willing to forgive the state game than mizzou. State was the first game in a weird environment vs a tough coach that makes a habit of playing up and down to his opponent.

Saban is really the only person that has done it with any success. It took him winning a third title before he figured out how to do it.

It normally wouldn't make me feel any better, but I am just glad they are trying something. With the athletes we have, even a simple scheme that's understood well should get us wins over SC, Mizzou, Vandy, State, Arkansas, Auburn, and Ole Miss.

Barring something crazy......like an injury to our starting QB or something of that magnitude.

How much of it is scheme compared to just not having the horses on the defensive end? Ig we'll have to see.

So the teams with offensive weapons (Bama, UF, Aub, Ole Miss) will be able to incorporate a lot of pre-snap motion and dictate the matchups they want? Great.

Absolutely fricking terrifying thinking about it. That motion the WR from one side to the other. The QB with the fake high toss to throw the short screen to the opposite side of the field.

There were excuses for the State loss. it was the first game in a new system, they were playing a new scheme to the SEC, Stingley was out and his replacements were a guy from Nicholls St and a guy fresh off of surgery, etc.

Cox is a stud
Just think how this defense would look without him

I want to start getting Josh white and sampah ready for next year
Same thing with end
Ojulari should be getting every 3ed down and someone else should get the base snaps over anthony

I agree. Still had a chance to win (that is terrible to say it like it's a good thing)but couldn't get in from inside the 1 which actually pissed me off more than the d because mizzou was missing 3 interior dlinemen
