and speaks more about the talent around them.
I always enjoy and respect your posts, but I respectfully disagree with this part of your statement. He played with Jacob Hester, Keiland Williams, Dewayne Bowe, Buster Davis, and Early Doucet. Who among these is not on an NFL roster, some starters, some stars. And these are just the skill guys.

Who is Byron Painter? I could use common sense to figure out what you obviously mean but I'd rather not.

Please see RogerTheShrubber's post about being surrounded by talent. Also, there used to be a lot less bowl games before the not-for-profit tax scammers went all in.

I went to high school with him and, yes, Peyton Manning is a much better QB than he was.

Manning took too many risks, that was his undoing. Tee Martin was clearly a better fit for what Phil Fulmer was trying to accomplish. Before the insults start, remember that limiting risk is a big factor in CLM's game plan. Manning, for all his talents, has always tried to make too many plays.
So are you saying he threw too many INTs? Manning and Russell?

I'm just saying talent doesn't always win titles, no matter the players.

Pretty amazing that we didn't throw the ball until the 4th quarter with those receivers, that Les Miles is a genius

Did you see a reference to JR in that post?
Posted on 10/25/11 at 11:47 pm to The Easter Bunny
No brah, Flynn and Mauck were clearly better than Russell because they had heart and made plays, even though Mauck had the best defense in college football and Flynn got to play for a national title leading the team to the same record as Russell

You referenced Miles, which could have been in a way referencing Russell's time as a QB at LSU under Miles

Then it's wasted talent and that's my point. JR, for all of his physical attributes - and they are impressive - was never a total package. His stats would have been much better if his timing would have been better. He was very poor with ball placement and could have lead his receivers more. Too many of his throws, especially on crossing routes, were low or behind the receiver. He had a spectacular Sugar Bowl and his combine was even better and he made a ton of money. Good for him.

Man his ball placement was bad. Led to 61% completions, more than Flynn and Mauck

OK, but the CLM reference was to stave off criticism of the game manager approach. Would I prefer Brett Favre, Dan Marino or Joe Montana. The first two were superior talent to Joe Montana, but he made the best decisions and he was consistently accurate.

The major point I've tried to make about Jamarcus is what I said earlier in the thread...

I can't speak to his on-the-field leadership, he might not have always made the best decisions, but he'll probably be the most physically gifted QB LSU will ever have.

Montana had some incredible players around him and was in a great system. Put elway or Marino in SF in that timeframe and they win championships too

Is there seriously a debate in here about whether Russell was a good college QB? 68% completion percentage, 28 TD's, 8 INT's, 11 wins, and a Sugar Bowl win his last year. Average QB talent? I shall not be participating in such a mindless discussion more than this.
Zulu you are connecting overall team performance WAY too much with QB performance. Single out the Auburn game to kill Russell for, yet Mauck was 13-22 with 2 INT's in the BCS title game. Luckily we had an insane defense, and Vincent was great. Matt Flynn had less than a 50% completion percentage in the Kentucky game for 130 yards, and the luckiest thing in all of college football was LSU getting to the title game that year. Rusell was getting better every year, and there is little reason to think he couldn't QB the 2007 team to 2 losses or less also. He didn't win a title, alright, it's a team game and he was still a great QB his last season. This is an absolute waste of time debate.

Did anyone actually read the article? He somewhat accepted responsibility, detailed some problems he had. And as a native of South Alabama, I can say he's helped out a lot of people in the city

This article does not reflect well on him IMO.
The police find the stuff by his bed....he admits he failed a drug test issued by the NFL in which he came up positive for codeine....his friend took the fall.....but he claims he didn't have a drug problem. I doubt he was an addict but a problem he most certainly had. The police, acting on a tip, do not secure search warrants from judges (especially involving high profile suspects) unless they have probable cause and a shyt load of it.
Does anyone else find it odd that so many people in his life have died? 11 in three years? The odds of them being from natural causes are slim to none which begs the question, "What kind of <friends> was he surrounded by?". It's the kind of thing you would expect to hear from a gang banger in south central.
At every turn he has an excuse.
So what you're saying is........when it matters most, something so easily achieved apparently isn't worth the slightest effort?
The guy claims he doesnt have money problems. He seems to deny his house was in foreclosure but that is a lie. Forclosure proceedings DID in fact begin on that home. He claims he sold it as a way of being more fiscally responsible. This comming from someone who shows up to a barber shop 3-4 times a week and hardly ever shows up in the same car.
No, no it doesn't.
