It depends on who is standing on the sidelines. Always has, sometimes it just is.

This! I think this is what leads to everyone’s frustration with this penalty. Clear blatant hits don’t get called when head scratchers do which sometimes significantly impact drives/games.

I've said for years there needs to be 2 levels, accidental, no ejection, flagrant = ejection. The rule has been in high school long enough that by the time they get to college they know better, and there aren't many of what I would deem flagrant in college anymore.

NFL has the ability to fine players for flagrant fouls, so ejections aren't part of their rules. Maybe college needs to start fines.
