He’s lucky he is still employed by LSU. He should be happy to be there. After football season is over and if the team is doing well the fans will show up.

No, the gymnastics team fills the PMAC!

I would love to see them take the seats out where the entrances are and give it more of a terrace feeing like Alex Box or the Superdome where you can watch while grabbing some nachos. Maybe decrease by a 1,000 seats or so?

Sure, but the public didn't have the option to watch so many games at home on tv in those days. This isn't an issue proprietary only to LSU. Most (not all) programs are seeing declining attendance, which is why most new arenas are being built smaller than you would originally anticipate.
What is killing us right now is the lack of premium/luxury seating that could flip a higher revenue for LSU hoops. The PMAC holds 13K plus right now. If they could cut out 3,000 seats to accomodate for 1,000 premium seats and end up at 11-11.5 overall, it would look better on the books and the television.

Here's the logic behind not going to most games in the PMAC:
A reason I haven't picked up season tix is that the seats offered are crappy, and they wanted $200/seat for crappy season ticket locations. Probably more now.
If I pick up a 3-game package, I get to pick the location and I end up around mid-court high up, for around $50 for the package.
Of course, by picking a 3-game package, I don't go to most of the games.

Attendance was embarrassing last night, but I'm resigned to the reality of this for hoops outside of a couple of games a year.

I thought the lower bowl was pretty good TBH. I think Saturday will have a nice crowd. Folks getting ready to head to NOLA, a Saturday night game following an exciting win.

Yeah, I hope so but I'm guessing 5K.

The next major basketball facility upgrade will be an addition/upgrade to the basketball practice facility. As far as 6 months ago, the funding for this upgrade had a long way to go. Hopefully things have changed in the interim and fund raising has progressed.
There is not the funding needed for a major PMAC change any time soon. There have been discussions, evaluations, and architectural planning on a major upgrade to the existing PMAC, but I wouldn't think anything will happen within 5 years. The cost of a new facility to replace the PMAC may be prohibitive.
The basketball attendance is very poor IMO. The engagement of many fans attending is also poor. It's a shame.

A lot of people think LSU basketball sucks if we aren’t ranked in the top 25, so they don’t come to games. As soon as we have a number in front of LSU we consistently have over 10,000.

I think the school does a piss poor job promoting and advertising for basketball. If you go to an NBA game there is constant music and action, on and off the court.
Get rid of Dan Bourne. We go on a run last night, Arkansas calls timeout and he goes into a Powerade commercial. Instead they should have cranked the music up and kept the place jumping. They should be doing giveaways to the students every single night... t-shirts, food, beer, etc. I don’t know how to post a link to a YouTube video, but go look up Grand Canyon University pregame... that place is crazy.
We need to get excited and support this program. They play a good brand of basketball. But I don’t think enough money is spent in the marketing department. There should be ads right now on all the local channels for Saturday nights game.
Maybe even like 2 tickets and pizza for $15.00
Or make it kids night... kids 10 and under get in free with purchase of adult ticket.
Why not have a walk ons tailgate party outside the pmac and have football or baseball players signing autographs and pictures outside.
Just do something to promote, and build excitement

They could take out some upper seating and create suites or a club level, but it would never be ready in time.

Pathetic attendance. Support for this team should be better.
Posted on 1/9/20 at 8:53 am to CorkRockingham
Its not so much the capacity, but its the quality of the seats. If you build a new stadium, every seat needs a quality view, regardless of how high up you are or how far away from the action.

The top of the pmac still has good views of the court. The purple chairs throughout the pmac are some of the most uncomfortable chairs ever made though.

It’s exasperating to hear this same stuff about basketball every. Single. Year. There are two solutions to this. I’ve been hearing this for over 30 years. Here they are:
1. Support the team and always have their back regardless of football season or not. Doesn’t matter if the football team is undefeated or hasn’t won a game. Compartmentalize and support basketball AND football.
2. Simply surrender and acknowledge that Baton Rouge and LSU are forever a football school and just come to the harsh realization that football has been and always will be king in Louisiana, especially Baton Rouge.
Once you realize that we've already selected Solution #2 100+ years ago, you probably won't be getting so exasperated. So, surrender already.

I know it sounds crazy, but there was time the PMAC, yes they same building, was a madhouse where students had to lineup early or sleep overnight to get in. Not so coincidentally that was during the the 80's early 90's which was the pinnacle of the Brown era (2 Final Fours)
The "problem" is not lack of promotions, advertisements, etc, it's that the program has been wildly inconsistent for the better part of nearly 30 years. Above all, casual fans only want to go see a winner. This year's team looks to be that, but most CASUAL fan's attention is focused on football at the moment. Somehow I can manage to support two different sports at the same time, but most apparently can't. Regardless, those casual fans will come around after football ends if, IF, the basketball team keeps winning.
It takes more than a good season or two to overcome 30 years of largely apathy. People didn't pack the Box after one good season under Bertman. It took several years of winning to get the level of support the baseball program has enjoyed for the last few decades.

I agree, but in the interim let’s promote the hell out if this, and give the casual fan a reason to come. One of the thing Bertman did was sell the family books. On one ticket you got 2 adults and 2 kids to all home games. They came in a booklet like raffle tickets, and they were really cheap.
Then they did the McDonald’s home run light. If the batter hit a home run they passed out free big Mack coupons, they switched to fries once gorilla ball started.
