i think they should back up the starting position 5 yards each overtime and make you go for two every time. the NCAA OT rules suck.

This... Never thought of this, but it would be a good way to do things.

I think they should back teams up to the 50, don't agree with going for 2 until after 3 overtimes.
Moving it to the 50 would force teams to earn it.
Right now your automatically guaranteed a FG try.

+1 -1

move the starting yard to 30-35 or so +1
..this would make it a 47 to 52 yrd field goal.
to the 50..too much time consumption,
will never happen.

go for 2 each time -1
..favors some types of teams.

i think backing it up 5 yards solves this. the quick overtimes would still occur b/c you start at the 25 one team scores a TD and the other doesn't then game over. backing it up 5 yards would get rid of the 7 overtime overtime bullshite. i remember one year the Ole Miss players couldn't even walk to the sideline for a timeout they were so tired.

They should start at the 30. A few years ago, they changed the rule so on the kickoff the ball is placed on the 30, it aims for consistency. And yes, teams do have to earn their score more.

Start at the 40. This means that not getting a 1st down would mean at least a 48 yard FG attempt. That would encourage a coach to go for it sometimes. If you do that, there is no need to make teams go for 2, because teams would not automatically score.

Right now, teams are automatically put into FG position. Kickers have too much influence on a game that has been going on for 3 hours.

Starting at the 40 is perfect. That means that you have to earn a field goal try. This would shorten the games. Anything but the NFL rule which is completely wrong.

Agree on backing up 5,10 or starting midfield.

However, after 2 or 3 OT..just call it a tie. I remember ties and they weren't that bad.

I would make it just like the NFL except I would guarantee each team one posession. If the receiving team scores on their first drive then they must kick of. The game can end in a tie.
The current OT Rules are not football. I hate it with a passion.

this!!

The NFL is close to getting it right. Problem is the coin toss carries too much weight.

College is a joke. Takes 80% of the game out the window. Makes it all about redzone offense and field goal kicking. Pitiful. And don't get me started on the inflated stats and touchdown numbers.

Seriously, the NFL has to change it to guarantee at least one possession.

I know the league tanked, but I think the Arena Football League had the best overtime rules. Kickoff like NFL overtime, each team was guaranteed one possession. If both teams were tied after each getting one possession, then it became sudden death.

I think the NCAA should move to the rules, but it would probably be to time consuming when you apply them to football on a full 100 yard field. And after the NCAA changed the rules about stopping the clock to make the games run faster, I doubt they would do anything that takes too much time.
