But it looked like it got close to Perine.

In any case running him up the middle on 3rd and then the gun pass on 4th was asinine.

His attempt to get the 1st was lacking.

Mixon would’ve picked up both 3rd and shorts.

I see what Taylor was thinking - run with your 3rd down pass catching back. But sometimes you can outsmart yourself and doing it twice was awful.

And nobody has replayed that enough to tell if he had a shot at catching it if he dove?

If Eli Apple turns his head around on that TD, he could at least knock the ball away if not outright intercept it, it passed right by him. He never looked for the ball.

2:58 mark of this video. He could have caught it with a dive.

TV Coverage was poor.

They didn’t show that play late with the offsetting penalties from different angles. It’s as if they just glossed over it.

screenshot from the video. perine made an effort to catch, but he didn't dive.

FYI perine is their passing/3rd down back. Sure Mixon can catch the ball too, but that's just what NFL teams do.

The Cincinnati penalty was a total bullshite Unnecessary Roughness for the clean hit on Kupp as he caught the ball. Should have just been on the Rams for the hold.

Why was he even in the game? Was Mixon hurt at the end?

Because it’s third and forth down and he’s the third down passing back.

I think so, Joe B did a great job in getting that pass close to him. The least he could have done is to make an serious effort to catch it.

not having watched the bengals all season, kind of find this hard to believe as Mixon has twice as many catches as Perine had this year and Perine is supposed to be a bulldozer type back at 5'11, 240...not exactly a 3rd down type of back.

Going back to their college days even at Oklahoma Mixon had way way more usage as a receiver than Perine. Dont really buy Perine as a "3rd down" back.

They tried to carve out a 3rd down role for Perine all year, while it was evidence that Mixon was a 3 down back. Never understood Taylor's love for Perine.
