Position coaches would be fine to replace as their buyouts aren't so big. With coordinators however the buyouts are huge and it would set LSU up poorly if next year tanks and you have buyouts for 3 coordinators and coach O whos buyout is ridiculous. I say just make him live with his coordinators unless of course E retires. then give only a minimal contract with incentives to an up and comer, and allow replacement of some position coaches. Cregg,, Lenihan, maybe special teams coach to move Bush there. Maybe even Joseph with his involvement in the Davis situation and the fact that the WR's can't catch the ball without Brady doing drills with them.

O should volunteer to restructure his contract to more like his original

And LSU should stick to the original plan with O

If he can’t hire a good coordinator then why should he be head coach?

Every coach should be able to hire their own coordinators and assistants. The entire program needs to be on the same page from head coach down. Nothing says chaos like a head coach having coordinators forced on him.

Not
NO but HeLLL no.

Typically that sort of control is agreed in the hiring process. Since Woodward didn’t hire O, I doubt he would be allowed to make coordinator hires

No, I'm not suggesting Woodward hire anyone, I'm suggesting he not allow O to fire his current coordinators.

you do realize buy outs are paid over a time frame. LSU athletics when great prints money like a printing press, when bad it still makes money

I have been screaming this. He needs a gut check. Take the paycut eat the costs of pelini and go find two young studs to redeem himself. Hell he's single now anyway he has no wife to pay for. What is he waiting for

No, he should not. If I'm Woodward I sit him down at the end of the season and explain that his only value to the program is recruiting and talking to Fritzy on his weekly radio show. A search committee needs to be hired to find the next coordinators and those coordinators need to run the show. O's job duties are limited to recruiting and speaking engagements. If we're going to go with this fricked up model that's the only way it will work. If he can't accept that then GTFO.

Why don't they have contracts that say with a losing season or losing X number of games salary drops down to $99,999 for all coaches and all existing contracts are null and void and subject to complete restructuring.

It seems that if incentives can be there for winning championships then disincentives should be there for fielding a stinky team....

The entire business model that we were sold on him for years was that he is great at finding the best coordinators and letting them do their best work, while he's the face of the program and handles recruiting.

You're taking out half the reason for him to even be there if you don't let him hire his people lol.

I’m fine with our HC hiring his entire staff. That way if he crashes and burns it’s 100% on him. My biggest head scratcher is why pay someone like Pelini that much money and include such a huge buyout. Pay market value which is half of what that DC is earning and make him earn being the 2nd highest paid DC in the country. It’s not like Bo was a hot commodity and everyone was after him.

You people have lost your damn mind. I'm assuming you want to win football games. You really think micromanaging the head coach from the AD's office and low-balling asst coach salaries is a way to do that?
