Yep, lets change a pitchers approach and mechanics in the middle of the season when he is undefeated. Best part is, we don't even know if it will work.

Does that make him perfect? Does that mean he can't possibly improve on anything? Is he already the ace of the New York Yankees? Because if he didn't have room for improvement, he wouldn't be at LSU.

I dont see a need to change his mechanics. But whatever, figures that the rant cant entertain the thought of individual improvement when things are going well. Ill wait till he gives up a few runs in a game

But even you admitted that it may not work, at this point in the season, that doesn't seem like a risk worth taking.

If only you would have thought about this earlier.

I think pitchers just bear down more with runners on base. The strategy is different. They try to entice ground balls..etc. they are more cautious about throwing pitches over the heart of the plate...and all sorts of things.
I'm not saying he wouldn't give up less hits if he pitched entirely from the stretch...I would leave that up to coach Dunn.

That would be much worse, IMO.
Don't take this the wrong way, because I think you are a good poster who knows the game. But, you kind of brought this one on yourself. Eades has taken a step forward this year. I don't think it's very logical to make a drastic kind of change "just to see if it helps" at this point.
There are several differences between pitching with men on base vs. without beyond pitching from the windup vs. the stretch. Pitch sequences change. His focus could change. Maybe he won't challenge guys as much with guys on base. The coaches may be asking him to pitch to contact a bit more than they normally would to keep him from getting deep in the counts (since he wore down last year). Maybe he just "pitches" more with guys on base.
Unless you can point to something specific that he's physically doing better from the stretch, I just don't think it is a good suggestion.

Had to bring this classic idea back up, guess we can put this experiment idea to bed after tonight.
