No one hated Saban when he was here. In fact, the fan base was largely unified during the Saban years, and yes he had a lot to do with that.
The fanbase has been split since Les Miles was hired.

2011 season is the obvious answer. Still my favorite season of LSU football ever. Easily the most entertaining, last game omitted, of course.
