Williams was a walk-on at LSU because he didn’t want to play in the G5 or FCS.

He wanted to play basketball, so never even attended any football camps to even get noticed by any of the big schools.

I remember speaking a former NFL DL, who has a super bowl ring about why LSU couldn't pass protect back in Les' time. He said that there are lineman that can road plow, but couldn't back up for pass protect and Les was more focused on the road plows. It seems that now we have guys that are great at backing up in pass protection but cannot road plow forward. It is rare to have those who can do both.

Williams was a lot more effective at grinding out consistent yardage when defenses had to pay attention to Daniels. He’s just not the same threat next to Nuss.

Durham is the only back this year now that Emery is down who has that vision and burst to the hole you need to run a lot of zone out of the shotgun. Hopefully he’s healed some more, because he was definitely slowed by the injury last week and that really limited his effectiveness.

I agree. I thought we would have seen more of Jujuan Johnson in some capacity by now. Not sure what his prowess is between the tackles but he has the juice to run wide or screen/flat pass receiver.

It's a bunch of different things actually. Here is what I have seen:

- Running read option plays (where the end is unblocked) and due to Nuss never keeping it and running the ends crash down HARD. Even on non read option runs, there have been several instances where the end is unblocked and he just crashes down hard and makes the play

- Center gets blown into the backfield, a lot. Chester isn't there yet from a strength perspective. He struggles in pass blocking too. RG has had a few issues as well. This + the amount of times we seem to run into the A gaps = a lot of 0-2 yard gains.

- RBs lack vision. There are times a hole is there and a RB does not see it. Williams and Jackson mainly, I haven't seen Durham miss any holes.

- Playcalling. We hand off to Jackson going wide on a 4th and 2 and hand it off to Durham right up the middle. Playcalling for the strength of your RBs is lacking.

Add all of this up and you have the run game you see. It's really not as simple as our oline can't run block.

Coaches will give you a bunch of BS, and fans will come up with all kinds of ridiculous reasons, but the truth is that there is only so much practice time, and if you’re spending it on passing you are not spend it the running game.

Les was the other way around. That’s why, even though our offensive lines were usually sub-par, we could always run the ball.
