Serious question - Can this LSU basketball team right now hang with Tenn/Kentucky?

After watching SEC Now this morning and seeing Tenn/Kentucky/LSU as the best 3 teams in the SEC I am starting to think that there is a chance that LSU could win the SEC.

Tenn/Kentucky both look very good but LSU is younger and seems to be getting better each game. After watching them pull out the 14 point miracle you now have that it thing going for them. LSU has size and quickness plus we might have the best point guard in the country.

I think we beat Kentucky right now but I have doubts about beating out Tenn

I like LSU in any tight game because of the 3 point power this team has late and the fact that with Waters having the ball late in the game we will have the edge in most games.

College basketball is all about the Big Dance and if this team wins the first game - watch out !!!

Tennessee is better than Kentucky but we get them at home. Rupp is tough especially when they’re as good as they are. They’ll both be tough

I think we can hang with both. But Kentucky’s point guard is developing and they are playing much better ball. I actually think we match up better against Tenn than Kentucky right now.

Love this stuff and I agree with most of what yall saying I think we lose to Tenn away and beat Kentucky at home... but in the dance idk. Is our depth and conditioning enough? And before anyone of this happens we have to play aTm away and I really truly hope this team has adopted a one game at a time mentality

Yes they can.

It will be key for our bigs against Tenn to have a good defensive effort. I believe they can do it.

I don't agree with that at all - Tenn might have the best player in basketball - the dude #2 is a nightmare

I don't know the names of anyone on the Tenn team but the point guard with #2 and #5 are all crazy good but I do like the inside D LSU brings - if LSU could slow down the inside game of #2 it would change the flow of the game. Kentucky is always Kentucky / talent with great coaching!

As an LSU fan I was just hoping to see LSU make a move this year - now - I am starting to think much bigger

Sure they can, we matchup well on the perimeter and we have a definite size advantage inside. They go 6-7, 6-8 on the front line and we’re 6-10, 6-11 of course they have size on the bench but nobody bigger than Bigby-Williams.

Kentucky is definitely beatable this year, home or away. Tennessee...I’m not so sure. I watched most of their game last night, on the road at So. Carolina, and they seem to be a very fundamentally sound, talented team.
What concerns me about LSU in their inability to play start to finish. They need to come out hot and keep the pressure for 40 minutes.

nice post - well stated

LSU needs to play more like Tenn

Level through the game - the fact we got down by 14 late @ Mizzu is the issue with LSU - you nailed it

I watch a great deal of college ball and most teams have the same issue to some degree - the issue with LSU is the high % of games we lose focus. In almost every game we have that short to long moments of losing focus. Waters needs to be the guy that pulls this team out of that.

LSU has a great chance to beat either of these teams in BTR. Much uncertainty about winning on the road

just because you have a tight game doesn't mean they lost focus / I didn't watch the game but what I have seen of Tenn is strong solid basketball

my point should have been to play on a level through the game more like Tennessee

right now I have it

1-Tennessee
2-LSU
3-Kentucky

They need to focus on playing like LSU for the entire game. This is a good team and has some bench depth. The coach is looking as being adaptable to in game needs. Combine those two and we can win against those teams. jmo

1. Yes. LSU has the talent to beat Tenn and UK

2. Of the two, I think it's more likely LSU beats Tenn. simply because that game is in Baton Rouge

3. IMO, even though they are a great team, I think Tenn. is a better matchup than UK for this LSU squad. LSU's strength is it's individual talent and those individuals' ability to make plays on their own. Tenn. is a great TEAM, but the sum of the whole is better than the individual parts. Many times in basketball you can do everything right and the opposing player simply just beats you because he is more naturally gifted than you. That's what this LSU team has...guys that can just beat you one on one. If LSU's 8 are all playing at their highest level, then they are tough to stop. Maybe the only team that is better in that regard is....Kentucky. From top to bottom Kentucky is more individually talented than LSU. Point being, if both groups of players are playing at their highest level, I think LSU is better than Tenn.'s players but not UK's.

We’ll rightfully be underdogs in both, but neither game is completely out of our reach

LSU needs to defend and shoot the 3 better. They won't beat these teams until they do. Their defense has been a lot better since the beginning of the season but those are two things that can be their achilles heel.
