Stanek shut down the bats. That's the biggest story of the game. After they went up 2-1, pretty much looked like LSU packed their bags for the night. Nola looked just fine. went Toe to Toe with a Top 10 pick.

Hell, he looked better than Stanek in the 7 innings he pitched.

Mark down another plus for Foster who has a good arm.
True but then you could also say that Foster likely never would have run down that ball Laird caught in the 8th and it would have gone for extra bases. There really is no right or wrong answer because each brings a different positive to the situation.

Is the debate whether or not to start Foster or Laird?
Cause ill take the bat over the defense all day long

In a vacuum, sure, but what if Rhymes, Katz, Bregman, Ibarra, and Jones are all hitting .330+?

Bat over defense for me.
Stevenson has a better arm than Laird, no doubt in my mind. I think Laird has better range, but Stevenson is better defensively. But the tiebreaker is that Laird has hit at least some. Does stevenson have a multi hit game this season?
Also, it can't be ignored, that currently, Stevenson, Laird, and Ross are in our lineup. How have they hit the last 4-6 weeks? I don't have the stats in front of me...but I doubt any of those guys are hitting .240. A 1/3 of your lineup producing that badly, not gonna find a ton of success.

No but if Foster is starting Laird is in CF.

Why would it matter? Can't hurt not to go all the way in the sec tourney. Rather see a rested team come the regionals

But do you really think if Foster was consistently starting, that he would continue to hit in the low-mid .300's?
And are you willing to sacrifice the defense in the outfield to find that out?
All, I'm saying is that I have watched Vanderbilt, Virginia, and North Carolina over the past 3 weeks and I don't think any of those teams are head and shoulders better than LSU as they are presently.
I think we are in a damn good position to make a run, and have just as good a chance as any team to win it all.

Good work on the breakdown. At least we agree on the arm strength.

Right now we have Ross, Stevenson, McMullen, and Laird all batting in a row. McMullen is the only threat out of that group. Way too many innings are sacrificed with that lineup. This forces the middle 4 in the a lineup to do all of the work.

There was a play today when Arkansas hit a shallow fly ball to right field. Laird makes the easy catch, but then one hops a throw to second that was maybe just a little longer than a routine 3rd to 1st throw.
If we allow a runner on 3rd with less than one out, any ball hit to center or right will be an automatic run.

Oh, I definitely agree that that is awful, but I really just don't think Foster is as good of a hitter as this year's stats say he is, and putting him in would sacrifice too much on defense for a minimal increase (again, just my opinion) in offense.

It's sad when Alex Edward has the strongest arm in your outfield. Mainieri needs to start evaluating arm strength other than just speed for his outfielders. We haven't had anyone who could throw for two seasons.

Katz had a cannon from RF.

He's played like 30 out of 120 games in the outfield. We can't really call him an outfielder anymore.

I just don't know why McMullen isn't the right fielder. He is not slow and he is at least a decent overall defender. If he could man that spot, you could platoon Moore/Foster at DH when Jones is back.
But instead, it looks like Mainieri is building his outfield defense for the postseason. Speed is his priority.
Td Ameritrade in Omaha dimensions: LF - 335, LCF - 375, C - 408, RC - 375, RF - 335
So that park is basically between the Box and Hoover in size.

That park is huge, plenty of room for foster to drop singles in

Who will be pitching for Bama today?
and should we be worried about Eades? He gave up 5 in 4IP against these guys last time around.
