I believe the fear of penalties was a huge factor in the play of their O line
and DB’s. The O line knows they can’t hold every play which allowed
Clemson to put pressure on Tua and the DB’s know they can’t mug a receiver
when they are breaking free which resulted in numerous big plays for the
Clemson offense

A defensive player is not "defenseless" by definition. If anything the targeting should have been called on Number 80.
Despite that I am surprised that the refs did not flag this play.

You forgot targeting. Mack Wilson lowers his head on damn near every tackle.

Is there a source for this? I’d love to quote it.

Dont get caught up in the number of penalties. It is always the situation where one comes up or in case of Bama calls that are not made or rulings that always go in their favor... like no targeting calls against them but their opponents are ravaged by them or favorable possession calls on pass reviews.

SEC refs are part of the good old boy's club like so many other things in the South. They are like a small town sheriff's department in Alabama back in the 1940's. The thin blue line of corruption, backscratching and coverup.

Agree on Bama. The ACC officials in our Bowl game were just awful.

In our game with Bama. Moses has a targeting play in the middle of the field in front of the official. No call. Burrow was hit out of bounds. Past the big white stripe. No call
We do not win the game. But they were typical and pathetic no calls.

Bama looked lost without the refs extending their drives with defensive penalties. Bama receivers always wanting pass interference calls on the defense. Refs let the teams play and called bama on things they were so used to getting away with all year. It was awesome to watch.

The SEC needs to clean house. Too much bad history and bad feelings have been created. Sankey knows this....he said as much

I would love to compare the timing and context of some of those as well.

I think what OP meant by his post was maybe the whole nation will see that SEC Bama bias is actually real when a game is officiated correctly. The numerous holding no call was ridiculous. Not to mention all the targeting penalties that ALL favored Bama.

I agree, they get a handful of illegal procedure penalties against their offense,
but never holding

“The bias is real”

We only have to look at the bridge schedule instituted by the SEC home office after the 2012 season to note that something fishy is going on with Bama and the SEC.

Kentucky, I believe, was taken off the LSU 2013 schedule and Georgia was added to it. Georgia was taken off the Bama 2013 away schedule and Kentucky was added to it

Of course, none of that excuses LSU not beating Bama since 2011 and being out scored 63 to 10 in the last three years.

My favorite part of the game was when the Clemson receiver from Alabama made that stellar catch. Saban calls for a review. Call stands.

Actually after reviewing the ref said the play was confirmed. Confirmed is different than stands.

This was the case of the Clemson Fire Drill I mentioned on the firs page. Alabama had the ball on the one yard line or closer and had a false start called against them and had to settle for a FG.

They were probably told to NOT commit a penalty when they had the ball at the six yard line. Clemson ate their lunch and they probably lost yards after their first down inside the 10.

When Bama isn't allowed to cheat they are a very good team. BUT, not near as great as they are when they can freely hold, jump early on defense and offense, target, etc.

When a team knows they are going to have very few if any penalties regardless of what they do, it makes them a much better team. Especially when you are talking about the confidence level and momentum.

The first is the average of the SEC games bama played. I just did the math from the penalty stat line in each box score for each SEC game bama played. I ignored their regularly scheduled out of conference games because I wasn't sure if those games had an SEC officiating crew or not. Bama played 9 SEC games.

The second was an average of bama's two post season games against Oklahoma and Clemson.
