SEC: LSU 2nd in football players graduating
Oct. 27, 2011, 6:17 a.m. CDT
The Advocate
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU posted the second-highest graduation rate in the Southeastern Conference in football. That's according to the NCAA's Graduation Success Rate data released this week.
LSU football's Graduation Success Rate, or GSR, of 77 trails only Vanderbilt's mark of 86. The only other SEC football program with a GSR above 70 is Florida at 76.
The LSU football program has shown improvement with each year's report, going from 51 in 2006 and 2007 to 54 in 2008, 60 in 2009 and 67 in 2010.
In the other two revenue-producing sports, men's basketball ranked fifth in the SEC and the baseball team scored ninth. But LSU spokesman Herb Vincent tells The Advocate (LINK ) both of those sports still saw significant gains from five years ago.

This speaks volume for miles. Miles is Not replaceable. Miles for president. If he can get these guys to be #1 on the field and in the classroom, imagine what he can do about these jobs. Miles is the best.

Most of the football players need their degrees for whatever they do after their college football careers are over.
I've a lot of respect for Miles for looking out for the future of his players who give whatever is asked for during their stay at LSU.

Second only to Vandy is essentially first.

If I were to rank the academic institutions in the SEC would an LSU degree be 2nd on an SEC list? If not where would it fall? Just asking cause some degrees may be of more value and some less. I guess that should be a part of the equation too.

This should be stickied, IMO. A tremendous improvement, and who would have ever imagined we would only be topped by Vandy.
To me, this is impressive as an SEC championship will be.

This will be a wonderful recruiting tool....we should be able to kill it in recruiting next year with having a number 1 ranking for 6 weeks now along with graduating more players than any other school in the SEC besides Vandy. Parents will eat that up...Miles is going to be a terror on the recruiting trail this year

THIS. THIS SPEAKS VOLUMES ABOUT THE LSU PROGRAM. I'll be honest, I never would have guessed that our graduation rate was that good. Congratulations to the LSU athletic department. I also find it interesting that the LSU baseball team is ranked below LSU football and basketball.
