The last 3 or 4 drafts have seen more college players drafted in the first 10 rounds than high school players.

You have to have incredible endurance. Way more than football.

Obviously it depends on the position and scheme for both sports, but as someone who has played both, and loves both, I respectfully disagree, especially if you play in the front 7 on defense. The amount of energy you exert fighting off and shedding blocks and making tackles is unreal. That, coupled with the sprinting, jumping, switching angles on a dime, all while in full pads, is way more tiresome than soccer. There’s a reason why you don’t see many two way players in football.

Why doesn't the SEC support soccer? And don't tell me soccer isn't a sport. Anyone who says that has never played.

Every SEC school has a varsity soccer team.

I’m sure there is some truth to this, but it also depends the level of soccer you played. You aren’t really comparing apples to apples if you’re comparing Louisiana high school football to Louisiana high school soccer

3.5% of the winners have come from a state that makes up 1.3% of the US population. Thanks for making the "Louisiana has plenty of soccer talent compared to the rest of the country" argument for us!

Soccer isn’t popular in the USA whether you Soccer nerds like it or not. 40 years ago all we heard was BS about Soccer taking over athletics in the USA but as we all know this never happened. However, you Soccer fans still refuse to understand that the vast majority of sports fans in the USA find Soccer boring and are never going to accept it as a mainstream sport.

When this fact is pointed out to you then Soccer fans get offended but it doesn’t matter. You are talking about why Colleges don’t promote Soccer but in reality Soccer isn’t even promoted at the High School or Junior High level because there is no interest. Therefore why would the SEC or any Conference throw money at a financial Black Hole? This is simply the way it is.

And we still don’t care about Soccer. Move to Europe where you can be happy.

We have been hearing this line of Bull Schit
for 40 years and it is no more true today than it was 40 years ago. Soccer is not popular in the USA and you Soccer fans can deal with that fact or not. It’s boring.

Title IX means you have to have equal scholarships for men and women.

Well with football eating up 85 scholarships for men and there not being an equivalent women's sport in terms of scholarship numbers, a lot of men's sports get dissolved because of it.

I believe this thread coincided with the Sun Belt announcing men's soccer is making a return. The poster, if I had to guess, made the thread because Kentucky and South Carolina are joining the conference as well.

The new conference will have 9 teams:

Marshall
Old Dominion
James Madison
Georgia State
Georgia Southern
Coastal Carolina
Kentucky
South Carolina
West Virginia

To be fair. That is an extremely strong conference for men's soccer. Marshall, Kentucky, West Virginia, Coastal, and James Madison have all been ranked in the previous 2 years. Marshall won the national title in 2020 also.

The problem as many other posters have stated has to do with Title IX, but honestly I see a larger problem.

I think men's soccer would do well here, but the reason LSU and Louisiana-Lafayette (Sun Belt) do not have teams is quite simple. Travel cost would be insane.

All those school are regional east coast teams that only have to travel one or a few states away.

We would have to consistently send our team to the East Coast for EVERY away conference game which would be very expensive and not make any type of monetary value return unless 10,000 people are going to every home game.

You're an idiot. You don't see the sport gaining ground because you are ignoring it. 40 years ago did we have an MLS? Were there teams all across the country? Were games for the national team selling out stadiums? You can say soccer is boring all you want but it isn't any more boring than baseball. In fact, I would say baseball is more boring. In soccer there are no down time except for injuries and halftime. There are so many down times in baseball, you could fall asleep.

In football, you have the downtime between plays. You get subbed out frequently. There is downtime when the offense is on the field. In competitive soccer, you are on the field basically until the half is over. You have to run constantly and be able to sprint over and over again. There is no comparison.

I mean this is just completely false. Soccer has definitely grown significantly in popularity in the past 40 years. I don’t think it will ever become more popular than football or basketball, but to act like soccer hasn’t become more popular just makes you look like an idiot
