Scrimmage - How Did Backup QBs Look
Posted on 8/11/12 at 8:07 pm

I just read through most of the scrimmage thoughts thread but didn't see anything about the play of the backup QBs.
Can someone please tell us how Rivers, Bolden and Randall looked? Thanks in advance.

Randall didn't play at all and it looks like rivers is still number 2 on the chart.

Rivers looked real good, bolden looked terrible, Randall did not get a lot of reps.
Bolden missed 2 easy TD passes badly to absolutely wide open receivers. Running horiZontally trying to outrun every one and failed every time. Didn't see him hand the ball off a single time on read plays

one I thought Shep should have had. Don't know how that is considered he missed badly ? I can't recall the second that you are referring to, refresh my memory ? He didn't throw it too much.

he gained decent yardage. He got what he could and got out of bounds a few times.

well, he did. and on read plays he reads the defensive end. not once was there a negative play. So he made the correct decision

sounds familiar

Starter by midseason.

Eta: in reality, he's probably pushing too hard in an attempt to prove himself to his new team.

Don't remember the receiver, but he shuck the corner back and was basically running by himself and the ball was a duck thrown 10 yards passed him out of bounds.

So basically, #1 Mett #2 Bolden #3 Rivers and #4 Randall? Bolden gets the nod b/c he runs the option.

Just hope they never take a meaningful snap. Randall has to be close to asking for position cange or leaving IMO. Much to good of an athlete to sit and watch.

B/c Bolden is better right now, has faced major college football competition, because Bolden has faced SEC defenses.
That's why he would be the number 2 QB.
That's still an ongoing competition, IMO, as neither guy has done anything to separate or dismiss themselves from the job.

It happened, it was during the first half of practice.
And Rivers looked a lot better than Bolden. This is the SEC, he's not going outrun anyone to the corner, our lb's and dl were getting to him very quickly. I thought kragthorpe was more accurate in his one series than Bolden

Rivers has practiced against the LSU defense for Almost 2 years
I'd take him over bolden anyway of the week

I remember the Shep play. Don't remember this play. None of our WRs, besides OBJ, got open today.

Disagree. Rivers had one good pass that separated him from Bolden on the day, but nothing substantial.

I liked the way Kragthorpe looked too. But let's not get carried away here, it was one series.

Maybe you guys just had a different angle? It's tough to see a lot at ground level.

Way to contradict yourself.

Randall ran the option well on NCAA 13
I ran a few to the short side and it was still effective
