re: SB Nation: How Ryan Perrilloux Disapeared Completely.

So much promise to basically flush it down the crapper.

On May 2, 2008, Coach Miles held a press conference and announced that Ryan Perrilloux had been dismissed from the LSU football team. "Ryan was given every opportunity to be a part of this football team," Miles said. "In the end, he didn't fulfill his obligation as an LSU student-athlete."

Crowe said bluntly, "The boy should have gone to Texas." He wonders what would have happened had Perrilloux not been in an environment where he kept finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
This pisses me off. It seems as if someone still isn't taking responsibility for one's own action.

The 2008 quarterback disaster we had should have been mentioned in the article. If RP hadn't blown his chances he most definitely would have been the starter, which could have in turn allowed him to be drafted.

Ryan was talented, but he did not have what it took to be a great QB and he can't deal with it.
It is sad and I feel bad for him. Everyone told him he was great since he was 6 years old and it messed up his character. All of that talent never got combined with the character needed to maximize it. Once you get to the NFL (and he was there for 2 years), everyone is really talented. You have to have something else to make it - especially at QB - and Ryan didn't have it.
No knock on him. This isn't a knock on him. None of us here have what it takes either. But, we can admit it.

Thanks for posting. Sad, but no one's fault but his own.

Didn't know this
quote:
On Jan. 24, the New Orleans VooDoo of the Arena Football League officially announced they signed Perrilloux for the 2014 season. Perrilloux points out that Kurt Warner went from stocking shelves at a grocery store to the AFL and then became a Super Bowl Quarterback and NFL MVP.

Perrilloux, the SEC Championship Game MVP a month earlier, played two snaps. Early in the second quarter, he pitched left to Keiland Williams on an option. And in the third quarter, he kept the ball and ran for 4 yards on another option. That was it. Two plays. "The promises that he would play," Perrilloux's mom said. "He played for like a second, and he cried that night. I had never seen him cry like that before."
This is where we learn Perrilloux, as a young teenager, can have a bullet run its way through his body, and he doesn't cry. But now as a young adult, he plays for "only a second" in a football game.
And he cries.
That tells you everything you need to know. He got to come up on the scene in the SECCG. His team wins the NC and is thrust back into the national spotlight and he is the PRIME candidate to take over with Flynn graduating and he is pissed because he only got two snaps.

iyt was on here last year when they signed them.... i thought there was a billboard in NOLA advertizing it.

ITT people still hate RP even though he could've won LSU a heisman and another Title (and hell, because of him we won at least one).
Yet they love the confidence of LF coming in saying he'll win a heisman his freshman year as well as a NC.
The fact is LSU fans make their minds up one way or another and that's that. I knew RP during that whole BR media shite show and you know what? He was a nice guy. He is a nice guy. It's a goddam shame LSU fans do this to their own.

He threw his opportunity for greatness away. His fault.
Posted on 2/6/14 at 1:43 pm to AlaTiger
Oh I agree completely. Things could have turned out differently for him had he not been dismissed from the team, but I'm not extremely inclined to believe it. Even though he took the hard route, he's still had his chances in the NFL, CFL, and AFL and still hasn't done anything with the opportunities given. It's really a shame because we all had high hopes for the young man.
My problem was with the author making LSU seem like the bad guy in the situation. RP may not have started as early had he signed with Texas, but 2008 was his chance and he messed up.

Good lord, that writer was duped. Miles went WAAAAAAAY to far in keeping RP on the team before he finally had to kick him off. If anyone was given far too much slack it was RP.
Posted on 2/6/14 at 1:47 pm to LSUwag
The fact that he got kicked off the team b/c he didn't play much in the national chapmionship game, even though after the game, he and everyone else in the world knew it was his team for the next 2 years minimum, shows how much bull shite that article and he is.
Yeah it sucked to not play for those two years, but you're finally there. It's your turn, nothing can stop you from being the main guy on campus now except RP.
Hell i remember right after the game saying we have a great chance to win it the next two years, and we are set up to do something special. Then he went stupid on us.

Oh come on. The dude wanted to contribute to that effort. He was a competitor and wanted to play. That's the least of the things from the article I would take issue with.

Way to take ownership of the myriad of mistakes. When you're in the "wrong place wrong time" a few dozen times, you might want to just never leave your house.

You guys are being a little harsh here. He's still working, got his degree, putting in his time. Doesn't seem like he's asking for a handout, just a chance.
Seems like he's been humbled and learned from his mistakes.
I wish him luck.

I'm sorry but look at how many chances Miles gave Matthieu. Ryan was given plenty of opportunities to get straight and he blew it. No one faults these kids for making mistakes and a lot of them come from bad circumstances, but when you are given second and 3rd chances and basically offered the world and still can't get on track, what else do you expect people to do? I hope he gets his life together because he's probably not a bad person. Just a kid that made dumb mistakes.
