I liked the way JJ ran the option

For the most part, JL ran second team and Mett ran 3rd, operating behind the shoddiest combination of walk-on OL you can imagine.

Overall, the passing game was very vanilla.

JJ will be great until the first game then he will return to be the worst qb in LSU history! A lepord can't change its spots. I like Jl but with Mett coming in he needs some reps. for next year.

thats not good he was one of the guys with experience sort of. I'm scared we aren't gonna have enough guys step up on the WR side of the ball.

What is your opinion?
my opinion is the staff will start the QB that gives the team the best chance to win...at this point that appears to be JJ because of experience. But I don't think he as has much margin for error, assuming Mett develops like we expect him to. For all we know he went with the 3's yesterday because he mailed it in in a couple of practices last week...that's why there's no point getting all worked up with this "same old Miles" bullshite.
Read the book "Outliers" for an explanation of how important experience is in predicting success.

Too many pages on QB...need to be more cconcerned about WR play IMO. It will be our weakest link. We need JLandry to get eligible and catch on quick enough to eventually become our #2 guy opposite RR IMO.
Tall order, but I dont think Shep has hands to be the guy and now apparently losing CT...ohhh man we are thin!
Too bad we couldn't land J Hunter or Mike Davis.

Boone and Wright will do fine, sucks to lose CT, but I don't think he would have been that integral.

I think we've got potential at the other WR spots. I would've liked to see them incorporated into the offense more last game. RR is certainly our #1, but like I said, out of the group of Boone, Wright, Fobbs, and Williams, I think at least 2 need to step up and grab the #2/3 spot along with RS.

Sounds like a good idea. You have 70 posts in 1 month, almost all defending JJ. Are you immediate family, relative or neighbor? Are you a DeadFish alter?
It has nothing to do with color. He is a lousy QB.
It is not a matter of him not being able to do anything to win fans over-he has been handed the reins of a loaded offense (certainly at least in 2010) and steered us to triple digit passing rankings. He is a lousy QB.
Can you defend the pouting, the finger pointing and his refusal to congratulate JL for bailing his arse out of several games last year? He had fewer TD passes than he had 5* WR's to throw to.
Most of us just want to win, and if that's Rohan over Booty, or JR over Flynn, then I am behind them 100%. Those that bring up racism do so because there is no other response to the discussion about how crappy his play has been outside of a couple of games he had a month or more to prepare for, against teams from outside the SEC.

he mostly lined up at TE from what I saw, but that's not to say he might not have taken a few snaps outside. He was certainly an integral part of our passing game today. He had a 40 yard catch and run on that really cool fake draw seam throw from JJ.
If we have a deficit at WR, I think you will see him lined up on the outside so they can use his big body ala M. Colston. That said, we seem pretty comfortable with what the other guys gave us.

Any thoughts on how Mathieu did against taller WR's? Wondering if he got picked on with jump balls, especially in the red zone, or was he able to handle the taller guys at WR.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Look at Dennis Dixon stats from last year under GC to first year under new OC.
2006
Running
Dixon,Dennis 12 94 511 69 442 4.7 2 34 36.8
Passing
Dixon,Dennis 12 120.69 197-322-14 61.2 2143 12 67 178.6
2007
Running
10 105 741 158 583 5.6 9 80 58.3
Passing
10 161.2 172-254-4 67.7 2136 20 85 213.6
Almost 4o yards per game more with 8 additional passing TDs and 7 additional running TDs.
I would take that same performance out of JJ anyday

Anyone thinking Mett was just gonna be handed the keys to the LSU team w/o paying his dues by starting the spring as the #3 QB hasn't been following LSU football and everyone who follows college football should know the #3 guy most times will be playing with other #3 guys.
And geez, Mett is 3 weeks into his LSU career while the other two are starting their 4th or 5th years. Why should anyone be suprised by this or read a whole hell of a lot into it at this time???

Because this is LSU and some peoples' feelings are not driven by logic, but personal feelings and emotions.
JJ's and JL's first years had them taking limited snaps and playing behind 2's/3's in practice. Now, all of a sudden, a JC transfer that has never taken a D-1 snap and been on the practice field for 3 weeks should be taking most of the snaps with the 1's than the guys going into their 4th and 5th seasons, respectively.
Welcome to the LSU fanbase.

I don't remember many passes being completed to Mathieu's side of the field. That was most likely largely due to the fact that he usually lined up against Boone, Williams, Fobbs, Wright, etc while Claiborne was usually lined up against Rueben. To directly answer your question, Mathieu definitely plays bigger than his size. I didn't see anyone picking on him.
Rueben v. Morris was one helluva a matchup. Rueben clearly won on a couple deep TDs, but Morris has great size and cover skills. Arguably the best WR he'll go up against all year stands across from him every day in practice.

Lets all assume for a second that JJ will play terrible this year and Mett is going to be the best qb AND you are the head coach.
Given this senerio do you think it would be wise to have Mett running with the first team after just a few weeks??? That would actually be a stupid move!
And as far as all the poor opinions of JJ lets not forget that the JJ at the end of the year was much better than the horrible JJ from game the 4.
And if our coaches are to stupid to realize Mett. under constant pressure isn't going to have stats like a qb with all day to throw then it is all pointless anyway. Practicing under pressure is probably better practice than standing around waiting for someone to get open eventually.
Rest assured the coaches want to know how Mett and JJ will perform in ALL situations and don't just compare those misleading stats. They probably were quite impressed with Mett not turning the ball over so it you can impress in that situation too.
