In a sense, you're correct

Nobody Saban wants to own more than his previous employer.

Although they destroyed LSU in the COVID year with LSU having a bunch of opt outs and nobody in the stands, his revenge game at Bryant-Denny for O sucked. O went there missing the majority of his starters on D and his top offensive player and almost knocked them off. I still can't believe LSU held them to their lowest rushing total in history there (in addition to easily snapping their NCAA-record streak of 31+ point games).

Even though he has dominated the W column against LSU, I'm sure he was thinking Bama would win by 30-40 points.

Saban is making hay while the sun is shining, just like he did when the last coaching transition took place in the 2017 recruiting cycle. He has the same narrow window now as he had then and he took full advantage of same.

When you are running in recruiting neutral while others are full steam ahead over a two month period, this is what happens. Will the 2023 cycle look the same as 2022? No it will not.

You strike an adversary at his weakest moment. You expect anything different? Without SEC realignment, we are his biggest stepping stone. With a down year, we almost busted his butt. He knows Kelly is heads & tails above his predecessor & trying to buy a few years with the current talent level disparity. He will certainly win a few in the short term, but on the long run, he will be playing second fiddle.

Nothing new. He has been doing it since day one as head coach at Buma.

That would signify he sees LSU as his biggest threat. Just have to try to beat him at his own game.

Some idiots won't get it either.

Several defensive guys in Louisiana they pushed hard for (I'm willing to bet they convince Law to play DB), all top WRs, and our own 5 star DB and WR on the team as well. Remember them going after and flipping Jojo Earle as well?

Bama has 18 WRs on the team now. They'll lose 2 to the draft, but even if they lose 6 more, they will still have 10 guys, (at least 8 are in the top 100 overall recruits), that will not all make enough impact to be drafted. These guys are wasting a year on the team and several will transfer next year. Even if LSU was "too crowded" or whatever, why not go to Ole Miss, Miss St, Arkansas, teams that will need WRs?

Saban is targeting the best players which fit his system and he has a need for. Period.

Saban has 18 WRs on the team this year, 18!!! He'll have 16 after this year. Do you really think he needs 3 WRs from Louisiana in the same class???

Yall think Saban plays this game like a normal guy. This is chess. He has gamed the recruiting system point blank. Back when how all the bluebloods used to get so many recruits just so their competition didn't have them, this is the closest thing to it. Saban is no idiot. UGA is a threat, but he whoops their arse and only plays them IF they make the big game. Nobody else is much of a threat except LSU. LSU is the only one who could legit challenge Bama's supremacy in the SEC. In a similar fashion, do you not understand how extremely insecure Bama guys are at LSU? Even when we suck and they are winning championships, it still hurts them for us to have anything good happen.

If you don’t think this is true than you are being naive. It makes a lot of sense from a strategy standpoint.

Agreed! I didn’t think I could hate Bama any more than I do. But I was wrong. I underestimated my level of hate for the tide and the little satanic bastard!

LSU is genuinely his only threat in the SEC and he knows it. Watch how things change over the next 2-3 years.

We've had the 5th best record in college football the past 10 years with les miles and Ed ogeron, We've played for 2 and won 1 championship. Now we have a coach with a more serious approach to the game. He's 33&6 the past 3 years coaching the Irish. I'm feeling good about the future of our LSU football program. Geaux Tigers

I think Saban still has a soft spot for LSU. He's just doing his job pillaging the state, but I don't think he means anything by it.

Simple truth is, if Alabama only recruited Alabama, they would be lucky to break .500 in any given year. Overall the in-state talent is not that deep and Auburn’s drinking from the same fountain. Saban has to raid Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Texas, etc to sustain the dynasty. When his time passes, they will be hard pressed to continue the larceny!
