It is called coaching, which we don't have on offense

Shepard's production has been disappointing since the first few weeks, but I think it's misutilization. I don't see how anyone could think that the coaching staff is properly developing and utilizing its offensive talent. I do think that Shepard would have been best served by going to RichRod in Michigan, his talent in that system could've led to even more pronounced Heisman consideration than Robinson's receiving (though perhaps he'll ultimately have been a WR in the NFL anyway).

Amazing what a good scheme and proper development will do for middling recruits.

I say he needs another year to develop. After all, he was a QB. I wish they'd left him there. He'd be a real asset IMO.

In retrospect, it may have been the wiser decision. Passing game couldn't get worse, and I know he is a better runner than the two we have.

the only two problems shep has are:

1. Terrible and predictable plays that he actually does more with than an "average" player

2. dropped passes in traffic which is part learning the position and part poorly thrown passes.

have you watched jordan jefferson throw a swing or screen pass? Its pathetic. I honestly think LSU would double its offensive production if jordan jefferson would throw 1000 swing and screen passes under pressure this week in practice.

If Les Miles had recruited Michael Vick, he'd probably #6 on the running back depth chart.

3. he often doesn't know where to line up before the play!

Neither does JJ, and it hasn't stopped him from playing.

I sure don't see how this scenario could have hurt anything

I'm not discounting this possibility at all....unfortunately though we'll probably never get the pleasure

but it defies logic to think that we have an unusual accumulation of guys that were simply overrated coming out of high school. clearly lots of people recognized these kids' talent and ability in high school, so you can only conclude we're failing to either coach 'em up or run a system that maximizes their talent.

This obviously makes sense, but it doesn't make it any less disheartening to watch week after week

it all starts with the QB. you have a starting qb that havent thrown a TD pass in over 7 games, what do you want RS to do as receiver?

Know where to line up before the play AND what route to run during the play.

WTF?!?! watch the replay. HE attempts to run on the field and is grabbed and pulled back. Then the coach that pulled him back about 4 seconds later pushes him on the field.

He's transitioning to WR right now. There's atleast one other player, if not more, who would even be better at playing slot back this year than RS, but his raw atheletic ability is what has him on the field. He's improving, and he plays very hard every play, i never see him take plays off. I think LSU hasn't experienced anywhere near enough with 4WR sets this year, which is pitiful, because as good as their new tight end is this year, the other WR's are bigger threats... As far as what RS has done... he's done quite a bit for a first year wide reciever and a 19 year old true sophomore. I think he'll make some more big plays this year, and if we get a new offensive coordinator, he'll be a monster next year.
