It's supposed to be a violation.
It's stupid officiating and it makes it simple to get an effective kick to that side.

The ninth post in this thread is quoting the NCAA rule, which clearly states that there is an exception for holders and kickers. Yet, people keep repeating this shite over and over. Do people just type stupidity, without reading?

You guys are talking about literal exceptions. The holder not being down is an exception to the normal rule. Why? Because the holder has to be down for the task.
Why is the spike not an intentional grounding? Because the intentional grounding rule is to prevent the QB from cheating a sack. Spiking is merely to stop the clock and is sacrificing a down to do so.
Rules have intentions which are tied to competitive aspects of play, safety, sportsmanship or some combination of those three.

On a FG the rule allows the holder's knee to be down in that scenario. Don’t know about the kick off.

As stated the rules grant kick off guys an exception. This was done when soccer style kickers emerged to replace the old straight line kickers. Without this rule no one could kick off soccer style and stay on sides.

exactly. You can't kick with your right foot to the right without stepping over the line. It's impossible.

Sure, but some are taking more than just a step over. The rule was made for obvious situations, but of course it's being taken e advantage of by kickers.
Watch the Bama kick again and tell me that's the intent of the rule.

So you are telling me that a kicker can be multiple steps ahead of the football with one foot, and still manage to kick the ball with his other foot?

IIRC, once the ball hits the ground, the fair catch rules no longer apply. So, no, they can't.

On the onside kicks where there are two "kickers", obviously only one hits the ball. Can the other kicker go over the line during the fake and get back?
My first assumption is no, as they aren't actually the kicker of the ball, so it would be a big tell if the first to move goes over the line. But I don't think I've ever seen it called ,though I also don't know if I've seen the first guy go over the line.

I'm 53 and when I played, there was no exception for the holder so he had to squat over his back foot with his lead foot stretched forward so his knee was not down on the snap. Also to clock the ball the qb had to throw it out of bounds. Good rule changes. I know. I'm old

I just wanna know what a catch is. What the hell is a "football move"? Why does a guy catching a ball in the middle of the field have to make a "football move" or take so many steps, while a guy who tiptoes the line of scrimmage to haul in a ball, and does so for a fraction of a second before stepping out get credited with a catch?
