there is video of the incident

Unless that cell phone video can be cleaned up in some way, it's not proof of much of anything and probably never sees the light of day in a court. imo

I’m all for doing the right thing, but this kinda reaction over a bar room fight in which everyone gets up and walks away is just unheard of in my experience and makes me wonder if something else is not inplay.

Nothing else is in play. Internet age makes attention whores go further in order to get attention than ever before. When your every move can be criticized and is open to the public, officials act differently than they did years ago.

Rudy is right about how it would've played out if back in the late '70s and early '80s. Today is another day unfortunately.

Hopefully my post is welcome on this topic.

Why are people ignoring the fact that the marine was waiting on the football players outside to start another round? To me he is a threat that wants to do me harm and how do I know if doesn't have a knife or gun to use on me? I wouldn't think twice about taking him down and making sure he is down because he is a threat to my safety.

Another item for discussion is why wasn't the marine charged with the felony? If the marine had robbed a bank and his buddies were shot and killed while doing so he would be facing murder charges, so why isn't he facing the felony charges now?

No.
You have the "sand" because you've very obviously not been in the situation Macklin describes. Trained policemen let temper get the best of them in scenarios like this. For the most part reaction is "the perp had it coming." That's because for the most part, the entire event is documented; not just the Rodney King ending.

The way the BRPD has handled this situation is deplorable. Putting forward a female-assaulting punk, a little weasel who picked a fight and lost, as a "victim" is an abomination of truth. Not at least filing coincident charges against him in the matter is stupid beyond words.

For that matter you, and everyone else claiming to know something conclusively from the video are ridiculous. You have no idea what preceded the clip. You have no way of knowing what's occurring there. Could be exactly as you describe it. Could be people not even related to LSU in that clip. No way for you to know that. Certainly no way to know that to the extent it justifies making the conclusive accusations you've issued against Jefferson. Folks claim the "victim" was kicked while unconscious? Yet the "victim" himself describes exactly what happened to him precisely at the time he supposedly was unconscious.

This sniveling so-called "victim" has an apparent history of similar punk conduct.
Does JJ?

Had the police looked at this for what it is; had they told the "victim" he had every right to press charges but if he did he would have to be charged, where would this BS be right now?

Had the BRPD explained to Lowery that since he started the fight, since he was clearly guilty of assault, disturbing the peace, etc. charges would have to be filed against him as well, there is not a chance in the world we'd be at this point.

In fact the BRPD Police Chief, incompetent buffoon that he apparently is, went the complete opposite direction. He and his department coddled the sniveling punk. They played him up as a victim. They cozied right up next to him, stroked his bruised crew-cut head, and said "don't worry sugarmuffin, we'll throw the book at the horrible people who did this to you." That is not justice. It's buffoonery. It's biased, and it's wrong. It's wrong whether JJ is guilty or not.

In a nutshell, your not recognizing the above, and acknowledging that by-all-accounts a pretty good kid, JJ, may have been done a significant disservice, is I'm sure a nidus for the previous "sand" comment.

Then wash it with Eric B and Tiger Lee.

Seriously though, if you don't like getting roughed up, try boxing instead of street fighting.
I liken this to somebody grabbing a Tiger by the tail and complaining about the arm he lost.

How do you know it was a player doing the kicking in the video? I have watched that video and you can't tell shite from it.

solid post. what I have learned on here is that a post like that is going to get acknowledged by one or two, but mostly glossed over. Why? because most that come here do so for the debate and argument. I have posted a few similar posts in threads where every sentence is getting picked apart for grammar and facts, and so far only one person has chimed in to agree. I too believe that JJ, although caught up in the moment as many of us have at a bar, me far too many times while serving in Germany, probably set out to give the guy the arse-whippin he had comin, only JJ took it beyond arse-whippin. Whe he won the fight, he kept going, beyond the guys ability to defend himself, and to serious injury. I don't believe he did it with that intent, but he just stopped thinking rationally. I feel horrible for JJ, by all accounts a good kid, from what little I know. I seriously hope he can rebound from all of this and have a career. I know he feels horrible, and scared, my prayers are with him. I also wonder, Why no debate over Josh Johns? WHat about his future, and his family? I feel exactly the same about him as JJ. My prayers are with him as well.

+100000
or maybe +1000000000000

. . . . except that really isn't what Rudy was saying.

"Pathetic" is a term much more apropos to folks like Geaux2002 playing judge-jury-executioner based on partial facts and the account of a punk who got his arse whipped and his GF. "Pathetic" is a term apropos to folks selling JJ down the river and in some cases doing so because his QB skills don't meet muster. He's a kid who's, until now, had a pretty clean rep at LSU.

I agree as well. At the end of the day even if JJ is exonerated, or pleads to a reduced sentence there is no justice done in this case. and a ex-con under probation wins...

Good post.

He is a 21 year old senior leader of his team. Frankly he should have known better and his teammates should have known better than to let him get into this position and should have gotten him out of there.

There is no such thing as a man code! In street fights a lot of people get kicked or stomped.

I gotta disagree. Years ago, a street fight did not involve any head stomping or other actions that could kill somebody (unless you count a punch). This crap was not a typical street fight either. It was gang style fighting in a group. It's not civilized, even for a street fight. Kicking someone when someone else knocked them down is not the norm for bar fights. The fight was already over when the guy was on the ground and no longer aggressive.
