Sorry he cut you from the band. Sorry you weren't good enough. Life sucks...but you have to move on.

Ridiculous. A smart school of music dean would realize the goodwill created by the band, and especially the Golden Girls.
These kids are your ambassadors. They are how you draw attention to your program, recruit kids to be in the school of music, and draw donations for your school.
Without them, most people wouldn't even be aware of the school of music at LSU.
And those dancers in the band who don't play music? Well, they don't even play music and they are out there working hard to promote the school of music. That's how much they love the school of music.
Idiots.
And the last thing the School of Music should want to see is the Tiger Band without its Golden Girls. If those girls stomped their foot in Tiger Stadium, legions of fans would rise up to defend them. They would have a full riot on their hands.

They'd never offer her the job.
Who hires the new Tiger Band director? The Dean of the School of Music?

I don't understand the Roy King support considering what he allegedly has done

Some of us are not really fans of the musical selections under him.

No one thinks he's done anything wrong.
He's tried to keep the band stipends (which come from the Athletic Department) separate from the School of Music money.

Everything I've read so far makes it sound like Alexander trumped up charges against Roy so that his boy Todd Queen could get control of funds usually set aside for Tiger Band stipends.

That has nothing to do with how you treat a former Tiger Band member and 18 year employee of the university.

I wish Georgia Moon was on this board-- I would be very interested to hear the perspective from the LSU Band alumni who are probably more attuned to the backstory here.
In the bigger picture, the one thing I do give Emmert and Saban credit for is getting rid of the crony Joe Dean culture of the early '90s and running things like a business. It seems F King and Joe A are hellbent on bringing the '90s culture back. For you fans who don't give a frick about band, it's this bigger picture which should have you deeply troubled.

Will someone, for the love of God, just spell out in plain english what he's accused of doing?

Let's just say that Roy King holds $300K a year of money that was given to him by LSU Athletic Department for band stipend (don't know where and I don't know if this is an accurate amount.) School of Music wants that money. Roy said no. Roy gets put on paid leave. Roy gets attorney. Roy gets fired via U.S. Mail.
Roy was also blamed for a couple of thousand dollars that disappeared off of/out of someone's desk. Roy wasn't this person's supervisor and had nothing to do with it.
Edited to add:
He was also accused of nepotism and other nitpicky accusations.
I suggest you read the article that is linked in OP.

This is what I don't get. Why would the university not dictate the budget allocation? Why would F King need to fire the band director just to get a piece of 300K shifted from one department to the other?
I've heard this is a money grab by F King and the school of music, but when I ask how, it just turns into rabble. Dozens of posts in this thread about "the facts coming out" and money this that, but no one can tell me why F King couldn't just slash the guy's budget if that's what he wanted.

Because it comes from booster money given to the athletic department.

The last allegation re: stealing money from a desk is the one that stinks to high heaven. Absent some psychopathology which miraculously didn't show up in the previous 20 years of employment, am I supposed to seriously believe that Roy King was somehow involved in stealing what amounts to chump change compared to his salary?
Now, seeing as how Joe A seems to maintain his job security by opening the Athletic Dept's coffers (i.e. the fans' money) to the rest of the University, I can easily fathom this being a naked money grab.
I am no fan of Jill Craft, and she is no friend of LSU, but I suspect she is on the right side of this one.
