Really, just thinking about it, with how much Dale started showing up the last 2 years, I wouldn't be shocked if Dale came back and coached 2-3 yrs with Livingston being the HC in waiting.
honestly it sounds just like Dale Brown to pull a move like that. The dude probably cant stand not seeing his name in the paper daily.

BTW even though hes not coaching hes still a better recruiter than TJ
Watch the clip from this time on....the guy still has it

Bring on Stan van gundy!

Wow, Steve Alford would be great! I had forgotten about him. Great player and from what I have seen a smart guy and class act. I do remember there was some unpleasantness at Iowa. Have to research that but on the surface he sounds perfect.
He was a fantastic shooter and guard and would hopefully be able to help Stringer, Hickey and Turner on their three point shots.

Steve Alford could be a good hire, but hires from out west with no southern ties scare the shite out of me. Evidence A: Trent Johnson

I see your point and agree it is a valid one and I know nothing about recruiting. However I know human nature and sometimes local ties could work against you also due to jealousy, envy and perhaps past problems with other coaches.
And another point is that if Trent is an example of someone without southern ties being a mediocre recruiter then how about Brady? He had souther ties and even if he got more quality players he alienated them and ran them off.
I think above all else we need a coach who can inspire his players and want them to play hard for him. That kind of coach can recruit anywhere. Brady and Trent are both lacking in that quality I believe.

frick no.
He only had one good year at Iowa. He would never cut it at LSU.

Then let's do a Steve Alford-Randy Livingston hire. It should be pointed out that even Trent got Richard to come with him, though that wasn't anywhere close to enough.
Alford isn't a terrible recruiter like Trent is.

Let's hire Phil Jackson. We probably could run the triangle. God knows we could run any of the offenses last year

Man, the Rant bitches about ANY candidate suggested. This is one depressing place.

Seriously people do we really think another d1 school is pursueing Trent to coach at their school, we have a coach who now 2 years in a row has begged to get another job. Last year it was Utah and now TCU and SMU. He does not want to be here. TJ ia the making the inquiries, I can assure you they did not contact him. Just like last year at Utah and never even got an interview. Give me a break. He knows he is in trouble again and I do not think he has a Hickey in his hat this year. Please someone take him.

Yeah, I agree. He's going to be here until Alleva admits he screwed up and fires him

Like Bubba said, at this point Alleva ought to give him his wish and run his arse off. You really can't justify keeping this guy around based on his record over the last three years anyway, and if he's busy chasing other jobs when he's got four - now five - scholarships open for next year's roster (not to mention two assistant coach positions unfilled), there isn't really an argument not to make a change immediately.

Here are the three guys I've bitched about in this thread:
1) Chris Collins - No HC experience plus only one Duke assistant has really had success (Brey) without cheating (like Synder).
2) Jones - That guy was part of the problem in the early 90s. His resume at UNT is kinda ehhhhh.
3) Alford - So he was good at Missouri St. and he's been good at New Mexico. But he was an absolute flop at Iowa (outside of one good year). He's a laughingstock up here in the Midwest.

Where are all the hands that went off on people if you spoke bad about Trent.
I've supported him in some threads, usually just trying to throw some perspective on the more rabid out of touch with reality ranters. I thought he deserved a chance and now he has gotten one. The main reason I think he needs to go is recruiting which has been abysmal with two exceptions - Hickey and JOB. We only got Hickey because at the last minute Kentucky didn't take him. How he got JOB I have no idea.
The nail in the coffin was the late season collapse when we had a chance to really have a nice season. There was really just no excuse for the way the team fell apart during that stretch.
The conclusion I came to then and still subscribe to is that Trent is too much of a hard arse, non-people person and his players don't like him and don't want to play for him.
I still think he is a pretty good X's and O's coach and for whatever reason, maybe the one listed above, his players just did not execute his system well. I think that at least one of the reasons Hamilton is leaving is the million times he rolled out of a pick wide open and we did not get him the ball.
