Does anyone remember how bad our secondary was before Ron Cooper got here? Now it's becoming a landing spot for top recruits. This guy deserves alot of credit IMO.

not really. it was down for one year with the two dickheads at OC.

and we've had good players in the secondary whether they were top flight recruits or not. Landry, Hunt, Webster, Daniels, Steltz, Zenon, Jackson

yea, look at the amount of 3 star DB's have been brought in and then have turned into great players.

Claiborne(may have been 2 star), Mathieu, etc

He's def lived up to the reputation

indeed he does, but your post almost makes it look like we went from getting bombed every yr to where we are now. our secondary's been pretty bad arse since 03, with good recruits to boot. 08 was an aberration.

Coop's got a track record going way back of finding diamonds where most people see coal.

He had some great DBs at South Carolina that nobody really recruited

If you need further proof, look at how far South Carolina's secondary has fallen since Cooper left there. The DB's are easily the weakest area of the Gamecocks.

both should have been 4-5 stars, but their parents and coaches didn't handle their recruitment right. Didn't go to enough camps, etc, so we were the only school that knew about them.

Mathieu was a four star on Rivals.

Seriously:

Laron Landry
Corey Webster
Ryan Clark
Travis Daniels
Blue Gay
Demetrius Hookfin
Chad Jones
Ronnie Prude

The list goes on. We have had pretty damn solid secondaries for the last decade.

I think your choice of words is kind of sketchy. What is wrong about their handling of it? Both guys ended up starting at a BCSNC contending team in their second years. Not just that, but their parents didn't need to turn them over to the pimps and whores in the camp circuit to make that happen.

I tend to think that their parents handled their recruitment in a fantastic manner if that is the outcome. Who cares how many stars they had? Do you think someone like Belicheck will decide not to draft them because Tom Lugenbill had them ranked middle-of-the-pack out of high school?

We still had some studs after Saban left, but the secondary was getting worse and worse after he left and the move the move to bring in Cooper has made it one of the strengths of our entire team now. Of course we've had some studs, but it wasn't that studly when he arrived.

No, but if they get zero publicity or have to go to a smalltime school & get deficient levels of S&C help & actual teaching, nevermind competition, or actual game reps, then they may never achieve their collegiate potential in order to realize a professional asiration in the sport.

Plenty of Football Camps not run by pimps & whores. It sounds like once again your logic is actually sketchy here.

They did NOT get zero publicity
They did NOT go to a smalltime school
They did NOT get deficient levels of S&C help and actual teaching.
They HAVE great competition
They GOT and GET actual game reps

Then they both might end up first round picks...
