The French Quarter Festival will be going on in NOLA 9/30-10/3, so you will have an incredible time in NOLA. All of the authentic New Orleans bands play at this festival, and it's free. It's not like Jazz Fest which is corporate and expensive and focuses around big out of town bands.
The only thing is that if you haven't done so already, you better book a hotel, because every hotel in NOLA will be full.

I love New Orleans but I always stay between the French Market and Poydras Street and between Bourbon Street and the River. I did see a sign once that said:
New Orleans- Come for the food, fun, and festivals. Stay because you were murdered. Lol

Stay the entire time at the Hyatt on Loyola. It's semi-connected to the dome and a short cab ride to the Quarter. Going to BR on Saturday for the LSU game will be easy. Postgame traffic is shite but it is wide open once you get to I-10. You can sleep til 1030am Sunday and make the Saints Noon kickoff with ease. Sunday afternoons in the Quarter are a blast.

Jazzfest late night shows are the best two weekends of music in any city in the world. The actual festival may have some big acts, but everyone enjoys going to see Widespread Panic on a Thursday.

3 downvotes because I haven’t fallen victim to a crime while living in the quarter. Real cool guys.

I would stay in NOLA Saturday and Sunday, no matter what time LSU plays. Even if it is a night game, once you are out of the stadium traffic you can be in your hotel room in the Hyatt in an hour. Then you wake up with a full day in NOLA on Sunday.
Lately even our night games have kicked off at 6:00 for the SEC network time slot, so you should be fine in NOLA Saturday night.

Hello fellow ranters!
We live in south GA and are looking to make a trip the weekend of Oct 1-3. Wanting to see LSU vs Auburn on 10/2 and Saints vs Giants 10/3. Then drive back 10/4 to south GA
Would it be best to stay in Hammond Friday night through Sunday night being centrally located to Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and getting back on road Monday?
Any suggestions and recommendations please and thank you!
Before offering suggestion, let me ask you a key question: Are you traveling alone, with buddies, girlfriend, wife, wife and fam (wife and girlfriend? - just kidding).
Joking aside, recommendations for New Orleans will be heavily weighted by these factors. If you come to New Orleans, consider enjoying our city like most locals who know how to have fun. Look for the music you want and pick your spots around town. Don't confine yourself to only Bourbon St or even French Quarter. If you respond to this I'll be happy to offer more detailed suggestions and can send you a list of good night clubs and reasonable restaurants to enjoy.
Good Luck!!

Thank you!
It will either be me, my wife, and my 18 year old or just me and my 18 year old. And I know, no pictures of wife, sorry. Haha
Thanks for your help

You’ll have a great time in Nola on Sunday after the saints game with that crew. There will be a lot of action. Giants fans travel well too. I’d just grab some drinks and walk around downtown, warehouse district, or the French quarter and look for spots that look like your style. Like another poster said, you certainly don’t have to confine yourself to bourbon st. there are a lot of good spots in the CBD near the dome.
And of course tailgating before the game in BR is never not a great experience.

Stay in BR Friday and Saturday and relocate to NO on Sunday.

OK, cool. Since is no private message capability for non-admin users I think the best thing is to make a general plan now (or soon) and fill out the details as the game dates approach.
I'd recommend staying in New Orleans. Try to arrive on Thursday morning or Wednesday evening. Go the the LSU game and enjoy the tailgate and game on Saturday. Stay in one of the warehouse district or business district hotels. You will be near the French Quarter (FQ) and have easier access to the Superdome and other parts of town than if you stay in the FQ. Parking is easier too.
As game day approaches - within one or two weeks, ask the board for recommendations about what bands will be playing and where, which restaurants are trending, and what other attractions you might want to see. For example, you may want to go to the FQ festival, or for a tour of nearby plantation homes. The FQ Festival is a great way to enjoy a broad slice of New Orleans. Catch the Saints as they spank the Giants on Sunday and round out the evening with the locals on Frenchmen St, where you will get a variety of music, food and fun.
Hope this helps.
Geaux Tigers!

I didn’t realize that was the weekend for French quarter festival. It’s a good time and you don’t need tickets or anything. Entrance is free, great music, right on the river, tons of food options. Highly recommended.

Then NO Sunday night CBD after game. Assuming vehicle will be safe in parking during game. Haha
You'll be fine. I lived in Nola for 25 years and as long as you don't go to the areas known for crime you have NOTHING to worry about. The CBD will be completely safe. This board is full of people that lived in the boonies their whole lives, so they think anywhere with more than 8% of the population being black is a hell hole.
