RIP Coach Arnsparger. Those were the years I was first drawn to the allure of LSU football.

He was a great coach but he won with Stovall's recruits.

He was great for LSU; however, he's also the guy that recommended against giving Steve Spurrier an interview but gave Spurrier the head coaching job at Florida when he became AD there.

Rest in Peace, Coach! Enjoy the view with Coach Mac!

Get the BA helmet stickers ready.
I'll never forget when we were in line around Tiger Stadium for Sugar Bowl tickets on a cold Monday morning and Coach Bill got out of his car and walked toward his office inside Tiger Stadium. (Remember that there was no football operations center in those days).
Instead of going straight into his office he approached the line and started shaking hands with all of us and thanking us for the support. Although that was my only direct encounter with him personally, I know, from that brief encounter, that the world lost a good man today.
RIP Coach

RIP may have been a very successful college coach had he stayed on that path, if only LSU had hired Spurrier although he probably would have left for Fla anyway
Despite seeing both teams put on NCAA probation, Arnsparger was able to extricate himself from the football problem by hiring Steve Spurrier, then the Duke University head coach and the Gators' Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback in 1966. The appointment set the stage for one of the most successful runs for a program during the 1990s.
