I'm not confident that our run defense up the middle can hold up all game against them.
yea and murray's no slouch either. thankfully, uga's defense isnt stellar either. i think the game will be a shootout and we will lose it if we can't improve our defense against the run up the middle but around the edges also. uab was very effective with both.

To the guy who said uga lost gates (lt), richt said all injured players should be good to go by next game. Gates supposedly did roll his ankle pretty good, but being an ol and having three weeks to heal, I think he will be ok. Wouldn't expect to see him against n Texas though just to give him the extra healing time.
To the other poster who said uga's Wrs are nothing to worry about, I will just say you are severely underestimating them. Bennett and Conley are two of the most fundamentally sound receivers in all aspects. They may not be "flashy" but they will absolutely eat young, inexperienced DBs for lunch. Justin Scott Wesley is pretty damn speedy ( he did qualify for the Sec semis or finals in the 100 before coming up gimpy a couple of years ago. You might have seen a brief appearance by Reggie Davis this past Saturday, a true freshman as well. He dropped the pass, but he too is a speed demon that apparently impressed a ton of people this summer. Rumph the big juco guy hasnt played yet due to a hammy, but he will be a big part of the offense when he comes back. Losing Mitchell hurts, but at least WR is the deepest position on the team, not to mention both TEs, both RBs, and the FB all have excellent hands.
Bonus, app UGA now has two kickers it can use, and the special teams have a little trick to them this year.
As to the defense, the jury is still out. A pocket passer definitely plays more to its front seven strengths. The secondary still has a long way to go, but what should be noted is that nearly on the very young or new starters missed a lot of preseason time and more importantly in some cases all the scrimmages due to injury. Talk about being thrown into the fire out of the gate. So they may very well be that bad or they may improve leaps and bounds given the chance to look back on mistakes and practice doing better in the warm up game. As for stopping the run, I am completely flummoxed by granthams inability to do so. It will be interesting.

I see this being a 34-31 type game. Could go either way. Be interesting to see how Mett does for his homecoming. Him vs. Murray in a top ten game seems like cool theater.

Can't lie, I'm worried. Actually, to me, they look scarier than Bama rt now.
Yeah, the team that lost to Clemson is scarier than the team that won 3 of the last 4 national championships.

Amazing how little confidence some have in this LSU team.

Well they can't stop the run or pass so we'll put up anywhere from 35-49 points. Thing is if we can't fix our secondary, they could do the same.
Gurley will get anywhere from 120-150 and a couple TDs unless we get Welter out of the damn lineup. We have to get Beckwith playing a lot with Kwon and by then we need Lamar Louis to take over MLB. I'd rather White than Collins(look what Hargreaves is doing at UF).
I think Hill, Hilliard and Magee could wear the defense down and have Brazil and Beckham on jet sweeps and end arounds. Right now we seem evenly matched and I won't give us a loss even if we are "between the hedges".
Mett comes back to UGA and goes off 20-29 321, 3TDs. LSU wins 38-31

Georgia has a traditional QB not an option QB so in that game i think we will see alot of run blitzing with the linebackers and Zone coverage by the Defensive backfield. I think we will committ to stopping the run and make Murray beat us with his arm and in my opinion its the only way to win that game. DB's will have to step up immensely
How good are they on quick outs, slants, passes to the flats and hb screens? If we commit to the run and constantly put 7-8 in the box during their 2WR sets, I think we could slow them down immensely.
We'd have to really trust our corners though.

See any of the Clemson game???
Naw, they don't have a legit #2 which i why the ball has been spread around in both their games.

Right now I would have to say UGA has the edge on beating LSU but in reality it could go either way. LSU's defense has been caving in on the outside stretch run and this is very concerning to me against the UGA run game. Funny thing is that this has always been the strength of the LSU defense because of their speed but not this year SO FAR...

I am actually quite worried about UGA's short passing game. Screens, swing passes, outside running game. Think it will be a shootout

I'm going to the game. I think UGA has the worst fans in the SEC, so we better win or it will be brutal.
This could be one of those games where people think it'll be 42-38 and it winds up being more like 24-20 with both defenses showing their best. We'll see.
I think by then LSU will have a much better feel for the right defensive starters and where/when to put in some of these freshmen. Beckwith looks like a beast in the making, and Tre White and R.Robinson could both be key contributors.
Those saying LSU can't run the ball well should be patient. There may be some cat and mouse going on here with Cam. He's showing mostly that same bunched formation, run right at you that Les likes. But, we've seen glimpses of the running plays with wider spaces and the ball carriers (particularly Hill) are going to really have a chance for nice gains when Cam gets things going. I'm confident.
That said, it is a hostile place and our defense will need to start the game mentally prepared or LSU could see itself down 10-14 points early.
