Rewatching the game this morning; a few notes

1) damn this defense was on fire last night. They continued drive after drive to kill anything USCe tried.
2) last nights o-line personnel need to be what stays going forward. May be young but damn are they talented. Let them take the reigns and grow together.
3) the offense looked muuuuuch improved over last week. The first half score severely skewed how dominant we were. We've become consistent between the 20s, which is great to see.
4) However, the redone issues still seem to be an issue. Just like the Auburn/Florida game, we score on our early drives instead of settling for FGs, the score doesn't really get close.
All in all, all of our postseason goals are still ours for the taking

Yep. My thoughts exactly. Need to spend a lot of time in practice this week on redzone scoring. I think the gameplan going in was very conservative going in due to the OL changes. Now that Les and the players know the OL can handle the task, they will be able to open up the redzone playbook and focus on that part of the game for next weekend.

If USCe's front seven are as good as advertised, then our new OL may be better than what we started the season with. They dominated the line of scrimmage last night.

This is what I saw. I don't think they planned for our freshman to dominate like they did. That is going to change the dynamic of the team. Mett needs to have confidence in them as well and throw the ball with authority.
Overall, I was happy to see the focus on discipline. Not a lot of bone head, drive killing penalties. We took great strides last night. With our defense...we can do this as long as the offense keeps improving every day.

THIS...THIS...THIS!

This was the fifth lineup in 7 games for the LSU OL! That's staggering, really. I was most impressed (and my unheralded player of the game) with Turner at RG. Dude is mamoth and quick. He was responsible for a lot of the up front gashing on the right side. Alexander is coming into his own, too, as he's given the reps. I hope this continues to be a trend.

Pretty much my conclusions as well.
1. LSU controlled the clock..now they need to finish with "7s" rather than "3s".
2. Defense is stout. However LSU need to use the offense to limit the number of plays the defense is out there for. If the defense can only have to play 40 or more plays...it'll be destruction for the opponent.
3. Short passes can/will work. OL bought Mett a lot of time last night. LSU needs to be satisfied with 4-5 yards per down. Also, mix up the 1st down play....don't run so much on that as they become predicable. Nice to see some passes on 1st down last night.
4. Special teams. LSU needs that to become a cornerstone and become more dependable. Wing must have had a bad night last night...he may need to get laid MORE..I know that Aussie son-of-a-gun is getting it...but he may need to get it more.
. Kick coverage was good/great. Hairston did a good job too...don't need everything going thru the EZ...especially if they hold the receiving team to the 15-20 yd line.

Also, Michael Ford was a BOSS as a KO returner.
Odell still scares the crap out of me trying to return every single punt
I'm seeing more and more big play opportunities that for some reason just never panned out that well. Hitting a couple more of these a game is huge to our offense.
Although I wish we had a few straight up go routes considering that is Metts best throw

Until LSU figures out a passing game the offense will keep teams in the game period.

I agree on this!
Just total lack of creativity inside the 10. I don't know why they don't spread out the D with a 4 WR set

I was upset at the play calling last night but I understand what Les was doing. All of the runs up the middle in the red zone was killing LSU. I want to see the offensive staff mix some things up in the red zone. Not just run up the middle. Overall this team has the potential to win the NC. The OL was on fire last night. Awesome team victory. Great Work by the coaching staff to get the OL line built.

When teams put 9 in the box they do not fear the QB

Thing about freshman is they DO grow up, you just can't plan on which game they will do it in. ;-)
Ben Wilkerson played fine as a freshman.

That call in the 4thQ with Jacobs isolated on a corner was a great, great call. Just too bad Mett way overthrew it

Nah, I wouldn't get carried away just yet.
We're not consistent enough in the pitch and catch department for that to work. It's been more catch problems than pitch, until last night.
We had excellent calls in the passing game last night on first down, with a decided advantage, but couldn't capitalize. Mett had the best protection I've seen since JR, and that's when teams didn't bother to send the extra man.
We had TE's attached to our tackles hips last night. We attempted one pass to a TE, and that was a split Jacobs for a jump ball in the end zone. I say we continue to establish our run, with our new and improved O-line, and unleash a PA barrage, using TE's against Bama.

I didn't want to start a new thread about this - but did you see how truly big and fast Jeremy Hill is on that long run. Those DBs chasing him looked tiny weenie - he was a head taller than them and looked like an enormous beast running away from them. He is going to be amazing. I would like to see him as our featured back the rest of the way.

I agree, I think the TEs need to get involved more. Those are every QBs best friend, but we never utilize them.
Just got to the PF on Loston. That was a whole lotta bullshite, led directly to 7 points
