The #9 always meant a lot to me...

#9 Drew Brees (Saints)
#9 Marwin Gonzalez (Astros)
#9 Nick Van Exel (Lakers)

And now...

#9 Joe Burrow (LSU)

With Marcel Brooks leaving, it's time to hang up #9 forever.

Hopefully we can get #3 retired for Faulk soon as well. His overall rushing yards record will stand for a long time, and he came back for his senior year when he certainly didn't have to.

LSU is definitely going to retire Burrow’s number sooner rather than later. There’s never been a more deserving athlete in the history of college football to have their number retired at a school

9 will be taken out of circulation and I think eventually it will be officially retired.

3 wont be retired but the number and name will be in the ring of honor, maybe as soon as next year if he makes the CFB HOF this December

Not saying you are wrong, but why wouldn't LSU retire Faulk's number?

Officially the practice has been banned. I think they will override that for Burrow because he’s such a special case.

For football, with the large rosters, it makes more sense to retire a number from one side of the ball. So no offensive player can ever wear 3, 9, or 20 again. No defensive player can ever wear 37.

LSU has had plenty that had fantastic careers worthy of having their number retired. Reaching the pinnacle of their position since their position isn't Heisman worthy

Retiring numbers is a useless endeavor and achieves nothing. Make a statue. Put his name in a ring of honor inside the stadium. Honor his number like we honor #7. Don’t retire the number. Retiring his number achieves nothing useful. Unless you plan on LSU football not lasting another 100+ years, at some point all the good numbers will be gone because silly people decided a discontinuance of the number made sense. The New York Yankees have dozens of numbers retired. Why?

Retiring numbers are not worth it. It can cost you signing a stud because he can't wear his number.

You retire the Burrow jersey, not the number.
