Restoring the pool in the Huey P Long fieldhouse

I've heard that there's a movement to make this happen. I learned to swim in that pool and I'd donate money to restore it. Anybody have the scoop on an organized effort? If not I'd consider starting up such an operation if the demand was there.

Not only would they have to restore the pool, but also alot of rooms around it, the racquet ball courts would be nice as well

Last I heard, there was a petition which included the support of several faculty members but I don't think anything is official yet

What I would really like to see them do is make that area into a rec center so kids on that side of campus do not have to go all the way to the urec

I would love this, but I have no idea where the money would come from to do this.

Back in my day, that was the only rec center for students.

That's a cool building. I took an elective swimming class one summer for some fun. Ha. Warm up every day was 1/2 mile. I would like to see it restored also.

I'm sure it was haha. With that side of campus increasing the number of dorms I feel like it would be a great addition. I do not go to lsu anymore I just think it would be nice
It does not need to be as big as the urec, mainly a compliment to it

There use to be a website to donate but I can't find it. I found this LINK but it doesn't look like the one that my KINS teacher showed us.

The KNES dept did a big study on it( how much it would cost, what it would be for and where the money would come from, etc...). Basically the whole building has real bad structural damage and it would cost way much more than they were willing to pay. The only way now is through donations or taf.

We need that space for parking. Sorry

The field house is a party of LSU history which makes it worth renovating. It is a shame they let it get this bad. It may be a bad time to start asking for money with all the budget cuts but we need projects like this.

Wonder if a student fee would be accepted

I'd wait till the Union project is done to do that. How long till that is done?

Would like to see a restoration of the pool with a full glass canopy ( retractable would be nice)and the same look it had previously( with the arches and all). then a weight room ( make it the focus after the pool) and one or two racquet ball courts. Because of possible size restrictions leave basketball courts and other intramural sports at the original urec. Also locker rooms and maybe class rooms
overlooking the pool with a 4 lane track above the pool. Where the camera shot in that picture is
Offer membership to alumni ( urec might already do this)

For some reason, LSU just lets things go like this. Instead of maintaining buildings at the time, they let the entire things go bad and then later have to spend MILLIONS to completely go back and renovate the structure. Thank goodness Cox Communications underwrote the Gym-Armory renovation or it probably would have had to have been condemned and leveled by the time that LSU got around to doing anything with it. Now TAF is trying to fix up the windows of the football stadium, but many of the old dorm rooms are still heavily dilapidated. I remember in the early 1990s, LSU was trying to get the legislature to build several new buildings on campus, and the legislators shot back that they didn't need to build anything more because LSU already had 700(!) unused rooms on campus. I suspect that the number of 700 must have been correct, because I don't recall LSU's administration disputing that claim.

If that is true then I agree with the legislators. Renovating what you have should be priority before building new ones. LSU could use a face lift as far as classrooms go.

Up to date classrooms would be incredible for lsu. If they could be as nice as the ones in the union aparently are that would be nice.
