You were right on top of the action.

Especially when we sold out and had to put fans in foul territory.

Those were awesome.

"Ladies and gentlemen in the stands, please move toward home plate in your seats to make room for more fans"

Sucked when it was hot, but that was fun as hell.

remember playing State and the box was so packed they allowed fans to sit in foul territory in LF and RF. I loved the old Box!

Auburn was one too.

Seems like heckling the opponent is frowned upon now whereas used to be the norm in certain parts of the park

My first game ever was a regional against USC. Some fans blew up condoms and beach balled them around the bleachers yelling "bust the Trojans!"

In my first games, the folks I sat with gave Chris Moock all kinds of shite. I feel bad because he was an LSU player, but he was kind of a dick. After that I got nasty on the opposing bullpen and reserved the shite talking to opponents.

Left field was awesome. We got into guys heads and got personal. I remember Moo St LF going 0-12 for the series and responding to us, flipping us off before leaving. IIRC that was a deciding series in the SEC championship, or at least a big one. Fun timesm.

Because of the Old Box, I get rowdy at Diamondbacks games when I go(only a couple a year) out of habit. Otherwise baseball can get boring.

Everyone disagrees with me but I will always believe that “The Box” should have been renovated. Could have been done over several seasons. One off season refurbish or tear down and rebuild the grand stand one year the the next rip out all bleachers and build a permanent structure with chair back seats the next. The box was tore down for 2 reasons. Skip wanted a new stadium for his legacy and others wanted the land it sat on

There wasn’t enough room to add all the player amenities that they wanted to add where the old box was located. People can complain about how the new stadium from the fan perspective isn’t the best but the player amenities is probably the best in the country now. That’s more important these days to get recruits than anything. They should upgrade the fan experience as well but I understand the thinking to take care of the players first.

I went to the Old Box several times. I think what most people actually miss is the spirit and the type of ball played during that time.

LSU was mashers which in a lot of ways fit the personalities of a lot of those beer drinking fans that filled those seats.

As the game tried to expand and the parks took on new looks the AD then marketed the game to companies and families.

This seems like sort of a cop out from an architectural design perspective. There was plenty of room to expand in that area along the first base line and in the outfields for any such "amenities." If you look at overheads of both parks, you can see the new one doesn't have much bigger of an overall footprint. Hell, all the great old AND NEW major league parks, are those that work within set geographical confines.

I get the general thinking behind doing what they did, but it retrospect, it seems a bit short-sighted, especially in how they built out the new place.

We exist and 124 still has a bunch of dedicated fans(124 was the first expansion into the outfield). But it's not what it used to be obviously. Tailgating is all but dead out in HR Village. I still enjoy parking there for multiple trips to my bar(trunk) during games. And a pretty big group of fans park their coolers out back along the fence for the same reasons.

My brother is in our seats in this pic. He rarely goes anymore so me and the girlfriend basically own the tickets now. We usually make 20+ home games a year.

I sat in that section as a kid, ole Leroy . Y’all used to give the opposing bullpen catcher hell. I remember the smoke from the grill right behind our bleachers coming over with the wind. People in our section would bring collapsible ice chests and pour beers in the stands.

The train tracks were RIGHT next to the stadium. LSU used to fly a flag for every SEC team in left field. Almost every bleacher section had a nickname and a banner hanging. The homerun counter in the gorilla ball days.

The Old Alex Box was a great ballpark. Intimate, charming, a little rough around the edges, and when the crowd was in it there was no better place to watch baseball.

By the late 90s My dad(our group) was the one parked close to the Entrance Gate on the right as you walked in to HR Village.

Around 2001 or so my dad began making and giving away snocones for everyone. He'd pack a big igloo of shaved ice and had 2-3 flavors.

Was some great times out there even if were weren't winning championships during that stretch.

Any Bullpen Bullies in here? There were some damn funny people in my section back in the day. It was so much fun harassing opposing relievers getting warmed up.

I remember the Old Box fondly!

The 9th inning of Game 2 of the 2008 UC Irvine Super Regional is my favorite moment.

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

and then Game 3 to close the Old Box for good:
Game 3 - ALL the homeruns!

Holy shite, I remember your dad! We’d used to go in and out from the HR village. You remember in 97 or 98 when the Arizona State players tailgated with the LSU fans post game on Saturday?

Some more pics from the old ballpark:

I was away playing rugby for LSU when that tailgate happened. but my brother and dad talked about it for years. Awesome story.
They were the diehards in the family for the first 6-7 yrs we got tix.
I didn't get into a routine of making every home series until 2002. Before that I'd go to a few games a year with them.

You could climb up on the roof of married housing and see the field from behind left/center. Watched a few games from there.

The Old Box was a sacred place. Yeah it was a dump but it was our dump. Always thought they should have renovated it.. committing the same budget they had for the new box. could have been epic

The New Box is A corporate vanilla venue that looks like the yellow pages vomited all over it
