Houston Nutt!

Has he offered up a similar coach to sabotage future seasons at Alabama?

Mel Tucker, perhaps?

I give you...a prophecy

The Crimson Throne

Who will sit the Crimson Throne,
Now that the Crimson King is gone?
His stature short, but shadow long,
Who will face that ungrateful throng?

Who will bear that awful fate?
To measure up, to greatest great,
To mark himself against HIS slate,
Is madness, and an awful state.

So look, ye lowly, and despair,
For no hero will fill his chair,
Accursed he will bear no ring,
Who sits the throne after the King

You can’t convince me that wouldn’t have been a better choice than what we got - or at least as good.

So let me get this straight. You can’t be convinced that a coach that never won anything of significance ever wouldn’t have been better than Les Miles?! The same Les Miles that won over 70 percent of his games. 3 SEC championship appearances, 2 national title appearances and a national championship. That’s what you’re saying??

Nutt got fricking Arkansas to two SEC Championship games. I suspect he would have done alright if handed the keys to a program like Saban’s LSU.

Arkansas was a far more prestigious program when Nutt had the keys to that car

He might have a point. Miles couldn't last at Kansas. No way of knowing what Nutt may have done here

His three predecessor coaches there were 26-30-1, 3-6-1, and 9-15.

Everybody thinks I’m shitting on Miles, which I’m not even really.

I think any generally competent coach could have taken over that program and had success. Nutt was certainly generally competent at that juncture and arguably a better tactical coach than Miles has ever been.

Nutt wouldn’t have tried to call a TO against Tennessee following a Laron Landry interception in ‘05.

Yeah well he voted for Hillary so you can’t trust his judgement.

I recognize that I am indeed a complete moron but I agree that Nutt could at least have had as much success as Miles did. If you ever went to that part of Arkansas in those days you'd know what kind of hurdles he faced on the recruiting trail. Fayetteville is a nice community but LSU was building something. They went toe to toe with Miles.

He was a good coach just couldn`t recruit.Won with Ed Os
recruits at OM. When those players were gone he didn`t have
anybody to replace them.

Looks like more agree with him than you. Lol.

I was always a little surprised at the success Miles had here. I supported him, and don't deny his success here. But the argument that another decent coach could have followed Saban and had success here is legit. Miles gets credit for not screwing it up, and we had some damn strong teams with him.

I mean, I was just trying to counter the idea of the OP that Saban suggesting LSU might hire Nutt when he left was some horrible act of "sabotage" over the guy who ultimately went 3-7 against him.

Plus, I'm old enough to remember when we had a departing coach who actually did such a thing and we listened.

Not sure why this is getting downvoted.

Nutt made maxiumum use of the limited talent at his disposal

Les was quite the opposite. LSU at that time was absolutely loaded with talent but Les could never modify his offense to fit dynamic players like RS.

Nutt probably has a decent head-to-head against Les considering how vast the talent gap was during his tenure at both Ark and OleMiss.
