That cat is already out the bag. Only thing now to keep kids interested and fans interested if more teams have a chance at the end of the year.
It would be very entertaining to see Ole Miss, Baylor, Ohio state, ND all be in it. Makes for a much better product vs. watching the sugar bowl while half the star players “sit to get ready for the nfl”
It would be awesome… plus the playoff wasn’t the original problem it was when they went from a few bowls to 60 bowls.

There will never be a consensus on best team in the playoffs. Some team will always feel left out and like they deserved a chance and didn’t get it.

And for minor bowls, I couldn't care less either. Because 84 out of 130 team make a bowl game. Most are utterly irrelevant.
Now back in the 70s, there were only 12 bowls, with 4 major bowls, so making ANY bowl game was a big accomplishment.
Nowadays, most bowls are irrelevant, but the bigger bowls are still very important and I certainly get excited watching the handful of major bowls.

College football is the only major sport that didn't have a playoff to crown the champion. (and by the way, all other college football divisions - FCS, Div-II, Div-III - have had playoffs for decades).
It's nonsense to either vote on the champion, or have a very limited 2 or 4-team playoff.
Expand to 8 teams: Power5 champs get auto bids, and 3 at large. Of course too much expansion would dilute it, but going to 8 or 10 teams would be perfect.
Makes perfect sense.

That’s not even close to being true. Sure, too prospects going into the next draft don’t care, but the rest if the team does care; especially the younger players that get a few extra weeks of work
There are some middle of the road programs that have 1st round locks looking forward to playing too

I’m fine with it at this point, but I do under the argument against expansion. Most seasons there are only 1-4 teams head and shoulders above the rest. Rarely if ever does the #6 ranked team deserve to play for the NC.
This year, teams 8-10 are Ole Miss, Okie St, and Utah. Utah has 3 losses, the others have 2. None are worthy of being national champs based on their seasons.
Playoffs are fine but let’s be honest, they absolutely do dilute the regular seasons. I recall a 9-7 Giants team winning the super bowl over the 16-0 Patriots.
I’ve always wanted a 6 team playoff. Conference champs and two at large. Top two seeds get a bye.

I mean when you start talking about the #12 team getting a shot at the NC, then you’re looking at 2-3 loss teams that really have no business being in the hunt. This year it’d be 10-2 BYU. Talk about diluting the regular season.
